{quote} Yes, still playing with it but not invest more than 5k right now, if B3 exit strategy can improve, maybe real good.

There's nothing wrong with Blessing's exit strategy. Sure it could be better in many ways. But Blessing is quite complex already, and it works the way it is. You will not achieve perfection with trading robots.

It's all about approximations in every direction. You can't watch a grid trading EA work and not want to intervene. Don't watch! Or trade manually and forget the robot. Just let Blessing do it's thing and enjoy the ever-increasing account balance.

{quote} Dear sir! I used to spend days learning every single sentence you said( make the most outstanding path out there ), every reply in this topic, 6 month+ optimize. 1) There is no perfect strategy/ set file, the market always kick your ass sooner or later. 2) 10%+ months by months are unarchivable within current B3 ( real result i can get 5-7% per month including lost... ). One thing i think different from you ( or maybe because at your time MT5 did not ready for you to try this ), is that i always optimize 2-4 months back, and use present...

Forward testing is more important these days. Before you could just optimize over the most recent three to six months or so and go live.
Now, leaving the more recent few months un-optimized and used for final testing is very helpful. About half the time the forward test will fail and you need to adjust.

I'm amazed by the 'walk forward' folks. They don't seem to know or at least mention the true reason for 'walk forward'.

Prices move in waves, many different waves from all kinds of different buying and selling forces. All these waves are added together and what you see on your chart is a complex collection of waves. A trading system tries to isolate and focus on one or more of the component waves and follow them. Kind of like a radio tuning in to one signal out of millions.

Once you have a tuned up trading system, perhaps one that traded a nice smooth curve over months or years of history -- now you need to restart it on the live market. Even if the brand new, never seen before, price action still has your robot's favorite waves embedded in it, you need to get them synchronized. If you don't succeed your trading strategy may not look so wonderful.

It's my guess that 'walk forward' is really mostly a test for 'portability'. How agile your system is while being plopped down in new surroundings.

I've seen many instances of a robot failing to sync up with it's curves and staying that way. Or, more surprisingly, running fine for a few months and then getting out of sync, over data that it tested well for previously (with a different starting point.) Apparently it just looked like it was in sync. Blessing has lots of mechanisms for improving trades and fixing failed ones, so it can potentially make money even when it's out of sync. But it's complex and very tuneable, so all kinds of things are possible. I suspect many of the 'walk forward' folks would clearly find Blessing way too complex for their tastes.

Trading is all about losing. Expect it. But keep the probabilities well in your favor. When you start a new EA live, expect success, but be prepared to deal with the failures that come. Fix the problem or switch setups. Diversify. If most of your charts are winning then a loser or two is like paying the light bill.

If you make your final optimization including yesterday or today, that should help. And make sure the right edge of the optimization chart looks clean. There may be other ways, but this is the easiest one I can come up with.

Ultimately, don't get too neurotic about all this. If you just optimize and trade Blessing will usually do just fine, unless the market and the world are in turmoil, then you may need to be more careful. :-)

Diversify. If most of your charts are winning then a loser or two is like paying the electric bill.

How many different robot instances should you have on a $10,000 account?

Good luck!

Anything will work. Your's should be plenty fast enough.

Testing over a whole year with lots of variables can take an hour or so, depending.

A little patience can be helpful. :-)

At least MT5 will let you do it. MT4's limitations are a pain with Blessing. And MT5 usually comes with all the data you'll ever want, no messing around.

I have read the whole thread twice and I have not found any real LIVE account statement that shows good results for a long period, more than a year period, like those back-tests posted here already.
Can someone enlighten us with good results of a long period live account? myfxbook public account link will be good as well.

Blessing is free and public domain. You have everything you need to test it out for yourself. It's not a product for sale and this is not a paid forum. Blessing is a cooperative effort going back many years. I'm happy to hear there are no live account statements advertising the efficacy of this tool. We're not selling anything or hoping to start a stampede, just enjoying a good tool and contributing to it's improvement and sharing ideas.

There are various commercial EAs available for purchase elsewhere, perhaps with the level of performance verification you desire. Blessing is in a completely different class, with important advantages. I won't spoil your joy of discovery by spelling them out.

Thanks.

Good luck!

Hi richard96816
That was a very good explanation of the Blessing. If I use the latest attachments of the Blessing would that be good for me to test myself?
Is there any particular post I should go for the files or I go for the latest attachments?
Thanks to you and all who have contributed to the Blessing
Bless you all

Here's a set file you might try to get you started. Try it across three or four months of history on some random pair and see what you get. This is for MT5. MT4 is too limited to test this many variables at one time. (There are converters for moving set files from MT5 to MT4.)

I prefer the one, five and 15-minute time frames, but everyone should gravitate to their own preferences. Blessing is very adaptable. I tend to stick with time frames that are available on both platforms, since MT5 has far too many to test them all.

As an aside: MT5 is not really faster than MT4. It should be MUCH faster, but I suspect since Metaquote started selling the service of testing over many machines on the network (Cloud Network) that they've found there is much more money in it if they make MT5 slower. :-( So while it's not as fast as it could be, it's greater capacity is very powerful. Optimizing everything all at once makes Blessing's complexity more acceptable.

This set file is probably just a starting point. I've been using it with single passes of a few months of history to go live and be successful. But that's adjusted to my particular interests and point of view. You can make adjustments in all sorts of places to make it more amenable to your preferences. Turning off some indicators, adjusting stop-loss ranges, playing with grid controls, number of grid levels, early exits and a zillion other things.

Blessing has too many parameters, and some should probably be removed. But you can just turn some off if you prefer.

Lately I've been starting with the first three or four months of last year, which only takes about 20 minutes to test here. And then doing a quick test from there to today and see how well it forward tests. I've had half a dozen pairs that worked very well and a few others not as well. It works quite well for some of the JPY pairs, which I think were the original target of Blessing. Other pairs seem to need a little more optimizing or an adjustment to some of the original settings. And yes, you do want to shoot for high Profit Factors.

Good luck!

Note that set files can be edited by hand (carefully.) And you can do things like leave out all the lines that you normally never change, or the ones you change frequently, like Notes. When you load the file it will be merged with whatever settings you've currently got.

Thank you for providing this test set. I loaded it on USDJPY M1, M5, M15. However, it didn't open any trade at all. Test time is from 2021.01.01 to 2021.03.31.

Initially, I thought maybe the max allowable spread in the setting is too tight. But I was using Roboforex ECN live account. The spread is good and less than 5 points most of the time.

Not sure what happened though. Any idea to check?

There are a ton of other places that will teach you how to get started with Strategy Tester. Best not to clutter this already over-long list with such details not directly related to Blessing. There are a ton of Youtube videos and all kinds of other resources.

If you find a bug in something I've posted then please let me know.

Good luck!

That setup is designed to work with MT5, optimizing all parameters at once. MT4 does not have the capacity to do that. It will tell you to reduce the number of parameters and refuse to run. I've actually posted some similar, though more limited MT4 stuff in this list years ago and miles back.

Optimizing Blessing with MT5 is a whole lot better in soooo many ways. Get yourself a copy and give it a try. You don't need a live account, demo seems to work fine. A fast computer does help, but patience will get you there too.

Yes, I know this is adding even more complexity to things, but it's worth it.

Good luck!

I should have tried it out a long time ago. I know it's easier to test multiple pairs in one hit as well
