This is an interesting thread if we have a question about trading habit by the institutional trader can ask here, they trade with big amount money already, very different with a retail trader that only use penny amount money, actually, I have a question about loss by the institutional trader, how much the bigger loss occurs in single transaction?

Another 2 years later lol I just re-read the thread, still very interesting. Question for the Institutional guys.

If it *might* take a lot of mio orders to move price by a few pips in a very liquid pair, how come the BOJ intervention can drop all the JPY crosses +500 pips down (GJ, EJ, AJ, NJ) in less tan 5 minutes. I understand these type of interventions arent frequent, but this means they can very well move the market whenever they "feel like it" and its "not that hard"....

because they put in many billions and same time they will do statements they will defend this level, so people already change their orders to this information fact. so you have market structure changing by order flow and future perspective changing by this statement. they add event facts, same like big investors do to bring all together to a big effect.

same you do in retail when you add advantages and avoid disadvantages , only in much smaller effect. of course very big retailer like Warren Buffett can add much bigger advantages to one big effect then standard small retailer, but smaller retailer has other advantages big retailer never can use because of to big trading amount.

and you dont move the price by some pips with "only" many million orders, that is to small for liquid pairs.

The banks do not have a significant advantage, from what I have seen. They win trades and they DO lose trades.

Some banks are better than others. There is a difference between banks.

However, what the institutions do that is different from retail traders is they have a focus on larger time horizons, with
almost an entirely fundamental approach. Multi-week or Multi-month holds.

They may use technical analysis to set up take profit or stop losses.

However, they rarely use technical analysis as a reason for entry/exit.

When fundamentals change, from the reason they entered. They exit.

Could you tell me about “return to the mean”?
I roughly understand how to calculate it, but I don't understand how to mark the 10% extreme return on the chart.
for example you can use EURUSD for any time period ( last time i tried to display it for 5 years )
