You mentioned briefly about timeframes there mate.

Personally I havent gone lower than M15, but I reckon im going to start dropping down to M5 as ive not personally seen enough entries on M15 to justify my time.

Do you believe that anything lower than M15 is simply just noise?

Or that like HG and Gavin Holmes says, the markets are just fractal and any entry sequence is just as valid on one timeframe as any other, and the probabilities are not affected?

If im to believe that all timeframes are fractal, then isnt timeframe selection simply a choice based on lifestyle?

I.E if a person works a full time job, and trades when he can get a chance, then I can understand the logic of using H1, or even M30 because his opportunities to watch the charts are limited.

But if said trader makes it his job to watch charts all day/session (full time trader) then why would they restrict themselves to M15+ if the probabilites are equal, but the opportunities less?, surely restricting opportunities like this would not be good for "business", if we are to treat it as such.

Would be interesting to hear yours and others thoughts on this.

Just had a look at the first article, pretty interesting, and confirms HG and Gavin Holmes theories on lower timeframes.

If you dont mind me asking whats your routine around the timeframes you trade, how often you check charts, also for others to comment on this would be interesting.

For me personally, I get on the charts at 7.30-7.45 just before LO, and update the H1 HVZ's.

My MT4 profile is loaded with 10 pairs. I have a beep alarm set that goes off every 15 mins, (2 mins before M15 candle close). I quickly go through each pair using CTRL+Tab, if price is away from a zone I quickly skip on to the next, if price is at/within a zone then I look to see if a <2 volume bar is about to close, and if so then I try to work out if its a trade setup, and I update the zones at LO and NYO. . This is done 4 times an hour, for around 8 hours per day, Although concentration starts running out a bit after 2.00pm .

Something tells me this is pretty excessive for the amount of return on time, but not much I can do until I can work out a more efficient way of working.

I trade mainly using H1, H4 and Daily TFs (H4 and Daily just to check the trend). i trade GBPUSD and additionally sometimes GOLD. H1 is ideal for me less stress (i'm getting old hahaha), just need to check around once every hour (around 5 minutes before closing the bar).

Nice one. Do you find that you get many setups by using only GU and gold on H1?

No, in H1 TF you normally just get one optimal setup per session (JPN, EU/LDN, NY), therefore i will try to look carefully which trading setup (direction) will do in the next session, and trade accordingly. This optimal setup normally will cover the main movement of the day. Once i took wrong direction or i feel that the VSA doesnt support the movement just cut it loss and wait the next session or just the next day.

Note : Why only GBPUSD or sometimes GOLD because i just want to concentrate to one pair with good volatility and volume (liquidity) and trying to master its behaviour ... thats all i need and should be enough to earn money .... no need to be greedy hahaha

Which timeframe I should use while trading?

Charts are fractal in nature. Fractal means what you see on 5 minute timeframe can be seen on daily timeframe. Until and unless you are told timeframe, you cannot guess the timeframe because you see same dynamics on all timeframes.

Technical analysis works on all timeframes.

1) Scalpers and Jobbers usually enter and exit within 2 minutes. They trade in the direction of 1 min timeframe and use tick or second charts or visually create price charts in their mind looking at price movement.
2) Day traders use 5 min charts and remains in trade for about an hour.
3) Day swing traders use 5 min charts for trading and look at hourly charts for direction and remain more than 1 hour in the trade but close their position within a day.
4) Swing trades use 1 hour charts and remain in trade for 2-3 days.
5) Short term swing traders use hourly for entry and daily for direction and remain in trade for 1-2 months.
A) Short term investors use daily charts (some fine tune their entry on hourly) and look at weekly for direction and keep their position for 3-6 months.
B) Mid term investors use daily charts and look at weekly for direction and keep their position for more than 1 years.
C) Long term investors use Monthly for direction, trade Weekly and fine tune their entry on daily timeframe and remain in position for more than 3 years. They keep an eye on the fundamental analysis also.

I wrote above to one of my friends on Sept 15th.

I have a daily routine. First I look at Daily, then Hourly. Mostly, I trade in the direction of Hourly. Once I mark the locations of trades on Hourly, I start watching 5 min timeframe, but I switch between 5, 15, and 30 for clarity. I fine tune my entries on 5, 3, or 1 min.

USDCAD - M15, -1%

Totally messed up on this one, had a Pres78 2BR into the HB on London Open zone after breaking the zone high. The aim was to see the reaction at the high and get the trade to breakeven.

What I got wrong was that I accidently fibbed the wrong bar, (what an idiot, serves me right, I should have marked the bar with a vertical line first). Doing this would have kept me out of the trade as there was no reaction from the "correct" fib. 2 Grand lost for a daft mistake

EURAUD - M5, Breakeven

Break below the LHVZ Low, No demand/UT. Was also an S/R flip.

Closed this out soon after after seeing some strength in the bullish hammer. I was pretty confident in this one aswell. Nothing lost though.

That's funny I've been watching EU for an hour.

That widespread up bar during Franky open looks like absorption, but I can't bring myself to trade it because of the potential selling bar 5 hours later. 14:00 bar, about an hour before US open.

I can't find any HVCs, but there is some sort of resistance at 5662. Every time price hits it, you'll see price start to tick really fast. Maybe if price pushes up and comes back and tests 5662.
