Today I learned a lesson about swap rollovers. At least on one of my brokers, when you trade a CFD based on an underlying instrument like oil, or US indices, and most commodities, the future that the CFD is based upon will 'rollover' at a certain date in the future. I don't trade futures and don't know much about futures trading but a rollover is when you hold a position in the instrument and the front-month contract that expires is switched to another contract that is further out in time. Why does this matter? Well, it seems many brokers charge...

You can use any of two brokers who use futures and charge no swap fee. Best is FXflat. Second is FXpro.

Fxpro will not take me as a Canadian, but FXFlat seems interesting. I have asked if they will accept me as a client and am awaiting their response. I do wish they had more reviews online.

Futures broker work for commission. So review is not important. Leverage and costing is.

I'm reading the trading cartoons thread over at https://www.cryptocraft.com/thread/3...toons-and-pics
Most of them aren't very funny but they make you think about what was the popular 'zeitgeist' of the time, and you begin to see that many themes are recurring in history. This one stuck out for me.

I probably would have laughed at this in 2012 but obviously this sentiment resulted in a bad trade. I've missed out on a lot of opportunities because of my skeptical nature. It's kept me safe sometimes, maybe even avoided a cycle of continual frustration by questioning things that don't work. But when it comes to understanding the madness of men I need to remember that I don't know ANYTHING and sometimes you just have to shut your logical mind up for long enough to make the trade. Get in early on trends, even ones that seem stupid, if they have clearly captured the mass imagination.

"it is critical to decouple the randomness used to probe a system from the randomness inherent in its (sic) system itself."
Vital to keep this in mind when backtesting.

Have you ever noticed that brokers regularly organize trading competitions for humans trading manually, but contests for automated trading are much rarer? And what is rarest of all (as in nonexistent)? Contests for coding the best trading robot. Now what reason(s) could there be for that?

This is an interesting breakdown of Jim J. Cramer's stockpicking career.

TL;DR
He was mostly long-only during the greatest bull market in history; otherwise, he's like the rest of us, a monkey throwing darts at a board.

I suspect that the contests are driven by ulterior motives. Most probably to mine patterns from extreme performers and use the same for their own benefit. If that is the case, it is then easier and worthwhile to analyze manual performance than automated performance which could possibly have hundreds of variables and complex decision trees.

I've just written my 170th trading system document since I started this crazy journey back in 2016.

170!

That is about 168 more than anyone needs. Still, I'm driven to do it. I have to make things. I have to create. I can't trust things I find on the internet, as I've learned from hard experience. I need to know how something works because I built it myself.

The problem is that I now have WAY more ideas and systems than I could conceivably code and test on my own. My coding skills have come a long way since I started a few years ago but I'm still basically just a weekend warrior hacking together rough prototypes when what I really need is an experienced maestro.

I am getting fairly good at squeezing out what value I can from websites like the freelance service at MQL5.com and Upwork, Freelancer. But I think to make long-term progress I need a full-time partner in crime. I need a good coder who either does not have or is less interested in, the trading theory.

What I can bring to the relationship is some assurance of results as far as the trading logic goes, and I'm willing to pay for your time. In fact, you'll undoubtedly earn more working with me than you will chasing down odd jobs on freelance job boards. I have enough full-time projects to keep anyone busy for a few years.

If this sounds interesting to you please hit me up. I don't need to see a CV/resume or a degree but I will ask you to complete a (paid) technical test. Let's make lots of money.

I think I'm falling in love. Can't trust automated strategy testers though. It's got to put in the time. Precious time. Patience and time. To do it right, child. Then I guess rack up some points on myfxbook and become a commercial member? What are the steps to get to the next level?! Why am I asking you? Well, someone out there knows.
