Does anybody know where Paul can be contacted? Here he wasn't active since October. He has also an account on myfxbook. What is strange that some EAs only have results in August lastly. I hope that nothing terrible happens! :/

Hello PaulDV,

I downloaded Equity Guardian 1.14. Unable to activate. I am getting an error message: "This EA has expired. Please contact the author for a new version."
Please post the latest version or advise on how to solve the error message issue.
Thank you for your contribution to FX

Apologies to everyone for any inconvenience caused by my absence.

As mentioned on another thread, a number of events came together to keep me from doing a number of things that are important to me, with Forex being one of them.

I have uploaded a new version of the EA with an extended expiry date.

Equity Guardian EA This little EA is designed to protect your account from unexpected drawdowns and/or lock in profits. Note: It does NOT place orders. It does NOT amend existing orders. It can be used alongside any other EA or manual strategy that you care to use. Features Monitors EQUITY, not simply floating profit/loss. Can monitor all trades, trades submitted by any EA or trades submitted by a specific EA. Closes all monitored trades if equity falls below a specified loss limit (expressed in either an amount or a percentage of the opening balance)...

{quote} The next version includes a trailing profit option. This works similar to a trailing stop, except that it keeps a track of profit, not stop levels. e.g.: Trailing profit trigger = $250 Trailing distance = $100 Trailing step = $10 In this example, when the profit hits $250, the trailing profit is triggered. The trailing profit is moved to $100 behind the current profit ($150) When the profit increases to $260 (so, +$10 - the 'step'), the trailing profit will be moved again to within $100 of the new profit ($160). If the price retraces, and...

Hi PaulDV, good to have you back.

Im running into a situation where my opening balance on Equity Gaurdian 1.141 runs out of synch with my account balance. I happens in the following situations;

1) When my individual EAs hit a TP or SL and close
2) When I have roll over commissions during inter trade breaks
3) fi I manually close trades.

My work around is that I fiddle with the "Date of opening balance" in the Equity Guardian inputs

Ideally what I would like is that my Opening Balance on the Equity Gaurdian refreshes every second to keep in synch with account balance.

I thought he following inputs would help me avoid these situations;

1) Magic number to monitor = 0 (To account for my EAs and any manual closes I do or roll over amounts that affect my account balance)
2) Include commissions? - Im hoping this will take into account the roll over amount.

To sum it all up, im looking for the opening balance to alwways be the same as my account balance

Thanks for this amazing tool

Hiya,

This is not how EG is intended to work.

EG is intended to monitor the gain (or loss) of an account over a period of time, and to terminate all trades once a specific profit level has been reached, or a specific loss limit has been reached. This is intended to be across a number of trades, with the balance changing in the interim.

The Opening balance is how it keeps a track of how much equity has been gained or lost. If the opening balance changes every time the account balance does, then there's no way to determine how much equity has been gained or lost.

Thanks PaulDV

So I landed up creating my own EA that works off the difference between the balance and Equity to get the floating balance and then triggers the close order on all open trades once target has been reached. Thanks for the reply and hope you are doing well. Have a great week further

Thank you for a useful tool. It's promising in combination with my new strategy I'm developing. However I seem to run into a problem more often than not. The current profit and trailing profit does not seem to always update, and I have to manually switch time frame for it to update, which kind of makes it out of sync with the values I've inserted in the options. I have "Refresh Interval" set at 1. One trade that got opened yesterday did not sync at all and I had to switch the time frame this morning for the trailing profit to trigger. Maybe I'm missing something?

Some input would be highly appreciated.

BR,
Mr. Bank

Whenever you change the parameters of an EA (any EA), it restarts from scratch as though you had just dropped it onto the chart. This is always a very dangerous thing to do and can result in unexpected results.

However, in this instance, what happened is not unexpected.

When you amended the Magic Number to Monitor parameter from (I assume) "-1" (trades opened by any EA) to "0" (all trades), you were telling it to:

  1. Calculate the starting balance as at the Date of opening balance using the current balance minus all closed trades since that date.
  2. Calculate the current equity gain or loss since that date, looking at ALL trades regardless of whether submitted manually or by EAs.

It would then have compared the equity gain or loss against the Close On Equity figures you had previously entered, and if either of those values were exceeded, it would trigger an automatic close of ALL outstanding trades.

So, as I said, this is exactly what I would have expected.

"Pips are vanity. Profit is sanity."

That sounds very odd behaviour, and isn't anything that I've encountered myself before.

Switching timeframes would re-initialise the EA using the existing parameters, which would explain why that temporarily corrects the figures, but I can't see anything in the code which would cause the figures to go out of sync.

The only thing which comes to mind is the use of timers: EQ uses a timer to 'wake up' and recalculate the current set of figures. It could be that this is being interfered with by some other process - do you have anything else running on the same chart?
