The Russian oligarchs and others with questionable illegal assets. May be the ones forcing Bitcoin rise now. Ahead of a new president. More willing to monitor wealth moves. Just thinking out loud. A rush to launder/Tax $ to Bitcoin may be doing this. Since election, Bitcoin is on a terror. More so since yesterday's electoral college confirmation.

P.S. new senate is more likely to pass tougher sanction's against oligarchs. Not just the Russians. Dictators (stealing their peoples assets) and those officials may be rushed to launder $ to Bitcoin. Any push to change banking laws concerning Bitcoin. May see a like exit. Not today or next week. Maybe in the coming year. Dems have a hard-on for Putin's 2016 election interference. Also the recent hacking and bounty on soldiers. McConnel/Trump can no longer block this.
