More areas of England are set to be put into lockdown as the new coronavirus strain puts hospitals under growing pressure, the government said. People living in London, Essex and Kent should behave as if they have Covid-19, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said in an interview with LBC radio on Wednesday. The spread of the new variant means more parts of the country will be placed under toughest tier 4 lockdown restrictions, Hancock said, adding that he will set out details in a statement to Parliament on Wednesday afternoon. A smoke screen is usually made by relying on the old tactic of having an event take place in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and/or bring in the Russians/China.
This takes the focus away from what the problem is.
Brexit will always be a problem as it is Europe's only way with getting even with UK History.

Britain's obsession and myopia about european sentiment is hilarious. I live and travel widely in EU. UK is rarely mentioned. Nobody here really gives a fkuc what the UK does, or about its historic delusions of exceptionalism. All however have been quite clear to ensure that those will not be tolerated in any future post-brexit trade or relationship arrangements with the Single Market.
Sorry chaps.. but this AngloCentric idea that this is ..."Europe's only way with getting even with UK History.." is ludicrous and myopic.

You have a point on small pubs having to close despite low R rate, but what happen when a asymptomatic txsser from London decides to break away from its lockdown and decided to drive down to Cornwall for a pint or even tests his eye sight.

matt hancock is a joke! It is not dom cumms being portrayed as brexit architect that annoys me, but his arrogance.

I would hav still vote for tory party and still a member, if not for the current cabinet bunch of useless slimes.

My child is very concern at the moment about returning to school next week and without a proper direction from the government, who knows what the covid 3rd wave would be like.

Tier 1, 2, 3, 4 - N -> virus will not give a toss about the tiers

Children must go back to school, otherwise a lost generation (my foot!) -> Covid does not attack children, thats the take. And children do not carry virus back from school back home to infect those venerable......Covid won't understand that either.

Think time to move on. The deed is done for good or bad, time will tell but think fortune will favour the brave. The EU can get on with full intregration to a Federal state without the pesky UK veto. GBP futures plodding on to 1.40

Interesting points, though a far easier and far less confusing approach and handling of the covid would have been - a full national lockdown over all the mumble jumble Tier 1 - N. Humans gets confused with Tiers and not bothered with it, but the virus don't.

boris government have been trying to train and adapt the virus to their obscured definitions of tiers but it is the opposite that should have been done.

The start-stop-stop-start-stop-random patterns just wear people down to the point of not bothering at all, I will not put the blame full on the people in this instance. There are dumbaxx Brits around, so do an arrogant snobbish tory cabinet.

Economy can always be looked at and recover but all these cxxp approach by the tory was simply a nightmare.

Would a labour party handled it better, I don't know.... but at least they do not have someone like boris, dom cumms and lee to start off with.

As said and reiterating again, I have been a Tory party member and voter for donkey years until last Dec....

I highly doubt that. They have to put in place these measures because people ignore basic rules and the NHS is getting close to capacity.

I would like to thank the Tories for at least being semi-competent which is about 2 x better than a labour government.

I think this new COVID strain stuff is just a decoy to stem the "supposed" market reaction to the Brexit deal. A well orchestrated plan playing out to the books.
