- An unprecedented policy stimulus has allowed global GDP to rebound from the Q2 plunge
- But a broad second wave could lower output levels in the longer term
- We lift our global GDP forecast for 2020 to -4.1% (from -4.8%) but lower our forecast for 2021 to 4.7% (from 5.1%)


After an unprecedented collapse in GDP in the second quarter, it already seems clear that there has been a significant bounce in activity in the third. However, downside risks are present, especially around the scenario of a second wave of the pandemic. While higher debt and unemployment seem inevitable, income inequality and financial stress could lower long-term growth potential.
