General view with December horizon. short GBP and USD. Long AUD NZD and S&P

edit: I am not trading EU exclusively anymore. crosses and indices are at crucial technical levels. for me long term positions only. day trading stopped till 2021 minimum

Hello sir I've been trying to understand options. What you wrote does mean that ater paying a premium can one exercise the option I. We have a position hoped at the strike price before it expires which remains open after expiry date.

E.g one buys a call then a day before it expires and price is below the strike price one decides to have the trade as an actual open position which remains open (hence able to go into profit if price rises above the strike price ) after /beyond the expiry date?

What will happen on oct 1 if price never touched your strike price of 1.19 from now till then?
Will it be a loss or gain or they will give you back the premium paid for it so breakeven?

Hi skyf. According to the rules set by the fool in the first post, this is not an options learning forum but i can answer you this one time.

Buying a call or a put means youre basically paying a one off price for the trade no matter how far against you it goes. However it is time barred.

For beginners it is important to understand delta, gamma and theta. Theta esp, which tells you how much value you will lose in a day, so its always beneficial to time your entry and expiry duration so you can sell the option as far from expiry (european style) as possible.

An option will not breakeven if it expires at strike. Youve already paid the premium when you bought the option. How much in the money you need to be to breakeven or profit is something delta and gamma will tell you, which your options platform most certainly has.

Also you cannot exercise european style options before expiry. But you can exercise american style anytime, but then they are more expensive for granting this privilege. Options traders have no use for the latter because they only want to trade options and not be in a spot position

going into flu season and headlines like this keep coming......meanwhile the run-up in stocks has been carried by just a handful of growth names. (TSLA, MSFT, AAPL, NVDA, etc....) ....it's not sustainable
