I am pretty new to this multi-monitors setup. I have being trading using one desktop.

For guys using multi-monitors, do you have individual system for each monitor? Or it is just ONE system and you can send different kind of visual graphic on targetted monitor?
Mine is a single AMD Athlon 3000+ based system with a Matrox QID quad-head card with 4 20" TFT's attached...

Multiple machines really doesn't work too well because you'd have to keep switching mouse and keyboard...
(Mind you, it is doable, but a single multi-head system is easier!)

Not so fast. I have a desktop, laptop, and server all operated by a single keyboard / mouse. I use this: http://kavoom.biz/

Ditching a couple extra keyboards will clear up a lot of deskspace.
Yes, there are tools that will do that...

These just won't work with my Linux based gear though...

multi-monitor = more than 1 monitor on a single computer

search the internet for more info. There is tons of it.

each monitor in windows XP is just another independent monitor. You can drag windows from one to the other. There is no taskbar on these other monitors. But you can get software like UltraMon to make one for you (it also allows dragging of maximized windows to another monitor, which is very handy)

This brings it to a total of 4 screens including the notebook's.
No the laptop is not hooked up to the monitors. There is a PC under the desk.
I use 2 PNY Nvdia Geforce 2-monitor video cards. 1 in the agp slot and 1 in the pci slot. You can buy these cards at any computer store. Windows XP is set up to recognize these set ups and can support 4 monitors this way almost automatically. Peice of cake.

Thanks FXO, got plenty of experience with desktop monitors (had 7 before)... but appreciate the response nevertheless.

hopefully ART will know something, as it sounds like they are all connected to his notebook from what he wrote.

its very simpel to connect 3 monitors to your laptop. all you need is this Matrox triplehead2go

how's the video quality with the matrox?
the quality is good. i cant say any bad thing about it. maybe if you are a graphic designer or so then you will see something what a "normal user" cant see because the matrox-adapter is connected analog and not digital. but for me this analog setup is more then enough and i cant say any bad thing about it and i always see my charts and thats the most important thing for me

I know this is quite late to add, but this card works fine. I have it running right now. Actually, I picked up 6 of them, so theoretically I could run 24 monitors.

As it was said before, it won't work for 3D apps like games, but for trading platforms and browsing, it's fine.

I post some pics of my setups later once I go downstairs and get the camera.

I agree about the g200mms card. I bought one off of ebay a few months ago, and it's working quite well on my triple monitor setup.

I have the center monitor hooked up by DVI to an ati x800xtpe and the other two by VGA to the matrox card. And since it's a quad card, I could even add two more monitors.

Hey that one looks like tables and boxes from Ikea. So you chose to be on the dark side ... my setup is white and silver legs.... hmmm do they have those boxes in white?
