has anyone backtested or forward tested this on many pairs? or indicies also i am about to embark into a jounrney!
Ignored
That depends on what you mean by "this".

If you're referring to the EA, then yes, that has been tested on practically every pair and index available and simply works. If you're referring to the strategy it employs, then you're best going over to the main strategy thread and asking there, as there are many people applying the same strategy but in a variety of ways.

Hope this helps.

Hit my target for the week!

Hi! Congrats, great result!
But as was written before, this is not the strategy (Mo-Tu-Box and the follow the breakout).
Or was the EA looking at Mo-Tu from last week? As I understood, the EA now allows something like this?
Have a sunny and healthy day @all!

And as I said before, it IS the same strategy (i.e. a breakout). The only change is the period used to derive the range.

Accordingly, the EA allows you to set your own trading period:

As you can see, I've set it to start trading from 10am on Monday. This means that it will use the range as governed by the markets between 00:00 and 09:59 on Monday.

Hi Paul! Thanks for the quick and helpful answer!
Just one small question (same confusion as always): 00:00 refers to your broker time? Meaning GMT+3?
Box closes one minute before London Open?

Remember, that we have GMT, Broker Time, Local Time...

Not so, I'm afraid - it's hard-wired to start the range period from 00:00 on Monday.

Looks like an issue with the data on your client.

You may need to cleanse your test data...but I don't know how to do that I'm afraid.

Hi Paul, may i ask how you backtested the pairs you mention? Did you do it in the Strategy Tester? I ask because that's what I did, and - since I got bad results on some of the pairs you included - I decided to test them in another MT4 setup (different broker, but dl'ing from history center as well) and sadly got even more different results. So I really wonder if Strategy Tester is reliable for this kind of strategy, or it is a more general problem with the Strategy Tester. Any input welcome!

Thank you for your excellent EA.
On my broker and I think most others a bar/candle's open, high, low and close are all recorded using the SELLING price. If your EA uses the high selling price as a trigger to go long it should try take into account the spread at the time of trading to make some allowance for the fact that we do not know what the spread was at the time that the high that we are using for the trigger was formed.
Generally we should also be careful not to use ranges formed when there was exceptional volatility when spreads would have been very big.
I have not found back testing to be the best way to test a strategy because of the inclination to play around with the settings for the best results, I an testing your EA going forward on a demo account, last week was good using the Monday start.
Most strategies that look good looking back do not always work as well going forward due to the many influences on the markets and I have found that a large portion of good sense should always be part of a strategy going forward.

Thankyou.

I do like the idea of using the ask price when recording the long entry. This would be possible when forward testing, of course, but, as you have said, we don't know what the spread was historically, so looking back won't be as accurate. But I will look into building this in.

Curve fitting is very difficult to avoid, as we tend to do it subconsciously, so I do agree with your commend on back testing, especially when it comes to 'tweaking' settings. Personally I find using broad brush strokes to be a little more forgiving when 'going live' than trying to find the 10th of a percent of a value that gives the 'best' results.

For my part, I back-tested visually on every currency pair (using the indicator mode), recording the results for each week (took a while!), and discarded all pairs that didn't generate at least 40% win rate (I'm using R:R of 1:2). I then back tested the same period using the strategy tester and some good quality tick data, which pushed some pairs up and took others down, and again I eliminated any with a win rate of less than 40%. The list of pairs I gave above are the result, based on my broker (IC Markets), but may well be different for another, so I would always encourage people to do their own back testing rather than simply blindly following someone else's settings and hoping for the best.

Hi LarryK,
Please share your orders (closed or open) with profits by pips. I'll check my orders with yours for broker's reliability.
Thanks,
