Great article! Thanks for sharing. I'm very new to Forex and was able to relate to a lot stuff on that article. Specially the part about demo account - "Trading is not about making money fast. First, you have to form healthy trading habits with strong risk management rules. This way you will only deposit money that you can afford to lose." That's been my intention so far. Learning the mechanics and theory with demo and practice patience and discipline.

I think that the markets are 100% technical and that the only thing you can use is getting into trades around support and resistance zones

I think some of the most simple strategies can work, the only problem is most of us are inpatient and want quick returns. As one of the posters said the psychological and traders mindset is the key to any winning strategy.

I don't entirely agree. Yes, technical analysis is both important and very useful, but there are plenty of big fundamental events with a big effect on the markets.

I wish you luck in your trading endeavor. I use a variety of strategies. I'm currently implementing the 3-Ducks trading strategy. To go long: if prices are above the 60sma on the 4hr and 1hr charts, look to go enter a long position when prices break resistance on the 5 minute chart above the 60sma. BUT instead of using the 5 minute chart to find entries, I use the 1 hour chart for entry. So my sequence is Duck #1: 1 day, Duck #2: 4hr, and Duck #3: 1 hr (entry). Why do I use longer time frames? Because I was getting whipsawed a lot using the 5 minute chart. There's less fakeouts the longer the timeframe you use.

Keep in mind though, that no strategy is right 100% of the time.

there are plenty of strategies. a lot of them are stupid.
if I can advise a novice something useful never accept a mentor.because the mentor will lead you by the nose.
trust only in yourself.
if you are smart enough and determined to learn you will sooner or later succeed.

unfortunately everyone on this forum just wants to teach .but what they teach, usually nonsense.
so if someone is novice and gullible they can even spend years here.
but it will not achieve results.

I would say the best strategy is.... to backtest. Heavily. No matter what actual strategy you use.

I've been backtesting for a long time - lots of indicators. And most of them were really satisfying. One day I've put myself to work and created a script that backtests every applied indicator and condition - involving SL, Break evens, TPs and others. The result was devastating - all those great indicators were actually mediocre. Came to the conclusion that I was making myself blind to losses while manually backtesting and forcing to see the great results thinking "everything's gonna be alright".
Well... Glad I've put together a script that doesn't have emotions and can backtest as far as I want. This way I saves myself from really bad trades.
Though about even selling this backtester - easy as can be and gives really exact results in Pips andprofits on every timeframe. Without it I would go broke.

I agree. I wouldn't recommend using any robot without extensively backtesting it at least.

from last couple of weeks i have been using scalping that brings in a short time, even though it causes a great risk most of the time but overall profitable if you have good knowledge. as a pair um using eur/usd most of the time.

I also learn like you, sometimes they are very confusing, just enter the wrong command 3-4 times in a row and get bored
