{quote} not ic's fault. there is a market wide issue with XAU due to the lack of volatility in EFP gold.

Oanda and FXCM are both way under.

I get that they have to balance the spike and arbitrage. But 80 fixed?

guess it is their filter setting. set the net wide (80pips) so that more quotes get captured rather than rejecting orders, which goes against their no rejection/no requotes policy

FXCM and Oanda are a scam. Whoever is trading with them especially FXCM must be dumb.

MT4 technology is 20 years old.

when the server (at brokers end) receive the ticks e.g. t1, t2, t3, t4..., it need then to distribute out to each traders client MT4.
It need to process them in that order, it cannot parallel process the incoming ticks like Ebay or Amazon process incoming orders.
on a busy hour each day, each second may have 5 or 10 ticks for each pair. But during news time or high volatility, there could be hundreds of ticks per second from EACH LP.
The server needs to ensure it process the ticks in order of timestamp from each LP, find the best Bid and Ask for each tick(it could have the best bid from LP1 but best ask from LP3), then send it out the the hundreds or thousands of clients on each server for EACH pair.. So during NFP news, every USD pair will be affected.

Think of the server having a mini DDOS attack during news.

To ease this problem, a broker could always drop some ticks, i.e. process t1, t6, t15, etc. If the server did not slow down or "freeze", chances are the broker is a market marker since it does not rely on external ticks to send the info to the clients.

So it doesn't matter how big servers the broker has, the issue causes the application (MT4) congestion, servers these days are not under stress physically - plenty or RAM and CPU.
This is no different than an application on your desktop being "non responsive" but your PC itself has no issue.

When the vast amount of ticks getting received into your PC, MT4 will needs to process this. if you have multiple USD pairs charts open during NFP, your MT4 will be unresponsive as well. But it is less likely to be a problem at your end than at the server end. Your PC only receive ticks from one MT4 server.
But the MT4 server receive input ticks from multiple sources(depending on brokers arrangement with their provider).

Occasionally, newer platform like Ctrader also have this issue, since there is no getting around needing to process each tick in order.

Other brokers also use MT4 technology and people are not complaining here, like they are complaining about IC Markets. And to be even more funny:some of their clients are complaining, while other clients are saying everything is OK?!Trying to get rid of unpleasant traders?

Same here. Server is Live-17. My trade was closed at 1500.63, SL was 1587.71. I have wrote to support. They say that it can took 1-3 days to clear that.
Will see what happens.
I hope that many complain and they work faster.

With the super high spread, even you have set the stoploss, you will not able to SL, is there any solution to deal with this scenario?

On march 26 they made a big squeeze on XAUUSD pair and a lot of traders lost their deposits. And now they say they will not recover your money because of this trouble.

I got royally screwed by this. I'd held the trade for over a day so i got the run up of over $100 in gold. They didnt reimburse me based on the market price at the time of the error, they used my open price. Absolute thieves. They definitely made money off this.

Anyone else get screwed?

Rethinking using IC Markets after seeing this spike.
No where to be seen on any other broker/platform.

Is anyone getting this "common error" on MT4 mobile app when executing a trade? It is not internet connection because I tried executing a trade on a demo account from MT4.

Could this be a server issue from IC markets?
