4hour GMT-4 (EST).
Have any of you had consistent success trading mouteki/demark with smaller timeframes?

4hour GMT-5.

I would prefer to trade hourly charts but I find there is just too much confusion for me.

Hi Nick,

I haven't tried anything other than 4h GMT. I'm thinking of using a 1h, but it seems the price projections will miss out on many pips. I'm not sure how to get around this issue.

4h charts, GMT+1 (currently still on the DST, so GMT+2)

hmm..how are you calculating the price projection? vanilla mouteki? or are you using fibs..? One idea i read somewhere was that instead of using the appropriate candle's high to calculate the price projection, use it's close instead. its conservative, so you'll reach the price projection more often, but you're also going to lose out on pips. but maybe it'll help if you're falling short using the traditional method w/ a 1hr chart. if you're using fibs to calculate, then this was of no use to u lol.

charts smaller than a 4h timeframes dont really work in a good manner if u ask me.. ive been testing this on 4h charts and i can say for sure that the daily and 4h charts are the best one to use...

Hi all. I have been using TDTLs profitably on 1hr charts for over a year. I also like to take the close of day at London 5pm market close even though i live on the Pacific coast. I feel the volatility leaves the market most days once London closes so why not base my daily H/L off this data? Just thinking out loud of sorts. One of the recent Tom DeMark articles i read stated that some take this as the preferred "Close" rather than NY? I trade manually off the Alpari feed wich is currently set at Central Europe Time but i usualy don't trade off the daily candle.

HK, you did get my PM on your request about my profit taking model? I don't think you will miss any pips-to-be-had on a given trend with that TP model.

I too like 1hr bars.

Can you tell me if you use the same count on one hour bars as Mouteki used on 4hr to select the bars to draw the trend line against? (ie, two bars either side of the supply/demand line bar). (2,1,0,1,2)

(I'm sure I could of made that clearer).

This is what I do and its been good thus far. I draw my TLs on the four hour chart and convert those lines to an hourly chart. When the candle breaks the TL on the hourly chart successfully (the body going atleasst 10 pips deep into it) I put in a market order, but if the candle breaks through it and the body is less then 10 pips, I put in a market order at the low/high of the candle. My stops and price projections are based off the 4 hr charts. Coz i'm primarily trading the 4Hr TLs , just getting an earlier entry on the 1 hr charts.

I use basic trendline setups on Daily charts, i don't even usually draw trendlines on 4H charts. I usually only do this to look for the general trend and make intraday trades based on what direction to bet in (i.e. not taking short positions in an uptrend). I just booked a nice profit on USD/CHF shorting a break of a major uptrend.

I trade it with successful on 1hr at 2am EST aka GMT+8.

The Mouteki Method - which you seem to be referencing here - uses Level 2 TD lines (2 to the right/left) but remember that Level 1 lines are also valid, just riskier.

From Currency Trader, a while ago:

For Level 1 (Supply Line) - starting from the last closed candle/bar, nearest current price, select the nearest candle/bar that has 1 lower high to the left and 1 lower high to the right of the selected candle/bar. Then move to the left to find the next instance of the same pattern. Reverse the procedure for the Demand Line, but always drawing TD Lines from right to left.

For Level 2 (Supply Line) - starting from the last closed candle/bar, nearest current price, select the nearest candle/bar that has 2 lower highs to the left and 2 lower highs to the right of the selected candle/bar. Then move to the left to find the next instance of the same pattern. Reverse the procedure for the Demand Line, but always drawing TD Lines from right to left.

I always come back to this method (Mouteki/TD), usually after trying and failing with some other "indicator heavy" system.

While I use other systems in trending markets, this is definitely my reliable, go-to breakout method in ranging markets...

Stating time zone in the question is useless.
When you draw trendlines, timezone does not matter. What matters is the bar's high/low and those of two bars around it, not the time of the bar.
BTW, having tested a bit, I found two TF particularly useful: H4 and M15.
H1 is not that profitable.
I believe this is because trading off M15 allows you to react quickly to intraday swings that usually take 2-3 hours.
And H4 is the same for intraweek swings.
H1 is somewhere between, so you get hurt on both intraday (H1 is too slow to react) and intraweek swings (H1 is noisy during the week).
