Yes, Blessing is more than a bit messy inside. It needs a rewrite. I and others have mostly just been hacking on it and cringing from time to time.

Sorry about that. Some day, with more free time, it may get fixed.

i just compiled the EA and go this error:
'1' - expression not boolean Blessing 3 v3.9.6.09.mq4 2484 26

When i go to line this is the code causing the error : if(IsStopped())return(-1);

It should. Assuming you have a decent broker, with good demo data flow.

Timing can make a big difference with Blessing sometimes. Blessing works by matching a repeating cycle in the data. It's not always smart enough to find the start of a new cycle. If she starts by taking a trade in the middle of the cycle results probably won't match those of your optimization.

If you're demo testing and want to start a live instance in sync it may help to wait until the demo instance closes all trades.

Great thanks. I am using Hugosway on Demo. Do you have a link on how o do the Live Instance in sync?

I forward tested a setup on gbpjpy for a month or so last year. Wasn't careful enough when I started the live instance around the beginning of this month. The first basket went into deep drawdown, unlike the demo that's still running a nice profit.

The live copy just came back today and appears to have synced itself up with the demo.

Several weeks wasted. :-(

Which brings me to a question: has somebody already performed a hedging on the same pair? I am asking because I am trying to find a setup that would have survived XAUUSD over the last tow months. So I was thinking of hedging XAUUSD with XAUUSD. Until now I have not found a setup that would not go in a deep DD to the end of last year.
Anyway, I wished that when we have a working setfile, we could discuss and find out WHY it is working. Or in contrary, like Richard now, why his setfile did not work. Even after extensive testing. Many people call Blessing a beast. I agree: so many parameters, difficult to tame it...

Hi all,

I have a question to the 'experts' regarding how Blessing handles magic numbers.

I decided to let Blessing manage a basket of trades, which were originally opened by another EA (which I had already previously removed). To get Blessing to manage the trades, I gave it the same magic number as the original EA. I have done this before with good results (Blessing was able to use it's profit maximiser function to close out the basket for a good profit).

I still continue to use the original EA on other currency pairs (which have currently open running trades) using the same magic number (which unfortunately cannot be changed).

My understanding and experience is that so long as the currency pairs are different, you are able to use the same magic number across all instances of the same EA (without each instance of the EA affecting trades on other pairs).

Unfortunately, on this occasion, Blessing has closed out ALL trades on ALL currency pairs (that had the same magic number), even those trades currently with a large drawdown (see attached screenshot)! I'm really unclear how/why Blessing calculated the TP as: 0.77959 (given the currency pairs in question) and closed out all 34 open trades!

As previously mentioned, I have never had an issue with any other EA tampering with trades on a different currency pair, even if the magic number is the same. Is this expected behavior given Blessing's code, or is it a costly bug?

Mostly compatibility with "#property strict". If you don't use the Holiday feature this shouldn't affect you. {file} Testing and bug reports appreciated. It's difficult debugging others code and resisting the urge to rewrite the whole thing. :-) I did change the formatting, but that's easily reversed. Blessing...

can you add feature Hidden SL and Monthly profit target for this new blessing .....

i think it will be good if we trade 2 or 3 pair with this EA and every pair we set get profit 15%-25% than the ea stop trade at pair that hit the target profit. Than EA will start trade again every date 01 for next month.

That feature will reduce the risk and give us more control for every single month of our trade.

When i optimize with a Blessing version 12 and then test it with other versions, i get huge DD..
I this due to the "once per Bar" Feature ?

I've never thought of re-using magic numbers for different pairs or different EAs. I've only done that once or twice by mistake.

Sounds like a bad idea in general, unless you're trying some sort of interesting basket effect. I don't think Blessing was ever expected to do something useful in that case, but who knows. My various set file and trade history querying tools are careful to use both symbol and magic number to differentiate things -- in case of a mistaken duplication of magic numbers. But I've never written that sort of code into an EA. Re-using magic numbers is a completely untested (mis)feature in my EAs. Haven't checked Blessing either. Having Blessing check for and reject duplicates sounds like a good idea for future addition. There are quite a few odd situations that EAs might check for, but most don't. So be careful.

Don't re-use magic numbers. At least not on the same account. That's why I use the date for the magic number. It never gets repeated, and provides a record of when the set file was created. I use the magic number as an index into my database of set files.

I often use the same magic number on a demo and a live account simultaneously. But that's because they refer to the same set file. Never in the same account.

Blessing has a cute feature which some seem to like: it will choose a (hopefully) unique magic number for you if you set the number to one. (Actually anything less than 100.) It's probably generally reliable, but there's a small chance the number might not be unique. So I choose my own magic numbers.

For those unaware or confused by the term 'magic number', it's an old programmers term suggesting the number or setting was made up and is not based on anything in particular. So don't look for any special meaning behind its selection. "Its magic!"

Hidden SL? Which version of Blessing are you using? None of the open source versions I've seen have a non-hidden SL. It's always hidden.

I've considered adding a feature to transmit the stop loss to the broker in case of power or network outage. I think one of the commercial versions provided that.

Not sure if you're talking about Blessing or multi-pair-Blessing for the monthly profit target. Something to think about either way.
