Mind blowing how people are still trying to complicate this. Just run the ea as it is as per authors rules and backtest using high quality data sets and if you like what you see go live with it.

the issue I see with these types of EAs and such low takeprofits is the spread that nobody considers. I understand spread is taken into consideration when you open an order the ea is accounting for it when it’s looking to hit the tp, but think about spread and how far the candle has to go in order for you to lock a profit. Most times the tp is 5 pips. And if your spread is 1-2 pips you should deduct that from your tp targets. In the authors manual some of his trades are marginally winning and if you saw the ask and bid line before opening that trade you’d probably see it wide as half the tp.

I bet you if you reverse this ea like completely reverse the buy and sell signals you’d probably get the same results.

Switch to a better broker, most true ECN brokers has 0-0.10 pips spread on 5 major pairs. Seriously, you shouldn’t even daytrade/scalping FX with 1-2 pips spread, your broker eats all your account.

In the printscreen of the settings i see that you added SL "previous high/low"....will the TP have Risk-Reward 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 options too?

But backtesting your setting is really bad. Not sure what to think of this backtesting anymore. I've tested several settings and they were bad but on live accounts it looks better.

My broker is an ECN broker. What I’m saying is when you’re backtesting and you see amazing results it’s probably because you have no idea what the spread was at those past signals that your backtesting results are likely ignoring and just taking the trade.

the only way to trade these types of EAs is VPS + ECN broker like you mentioned. VPS because you gotta get in right after 2nd candle close and it helps that it’s online 24/7 without interruption as well.

Are you even using high quality datasets? And what timeframe are you backtesting from ? Lastly, what broker are you using to backtest?

Agreed. This is why I am using a VPS with less than 1 ms latency to my broker’s server.

On back testing, using MT5 is more accurate when testing with 100 percent history quality, modeling every tick based on real ticks, and emulating requotes and slippages. I hope Paul can create a MQL5 version of the EA even for BT/optimization purpose.

The best settings I've found on EURUSD over a 3 year period are 2.9; 1.4 and 0.9 - but you only get 171 trades over those 3 years (so about one per week).

Your settings appear to be producing decent results, and I think as long as we don't let the EA trade blindly and we keep an eye on the trades it does take, then we ought to be ok. I'm trading with these settings now, and keeping an eye on things.

Yes, options for TP are None; Fixed; Factor of SL. That said, you should stick to the strategy - there's a reason why the author set those values.

I agree. I do wish people would stop trying to improve on what is already a decent strategy.

I won't be diverting from the core strategy myself as it seems solid to me.

It's just strange thats all, I don't really care that much for back testing anymore. I've done plenty, my focus is on forward testing. But I had a last spin using Pauls settings. I will test mine default and Paul will test his also Northwind will test his and we will have a bigger picture.

It is clear that this strategy works with a very low spread, in the order of less than 1 PIP. With which it begins to be profitable from time frames of 1H or more. If the spread is higher, it forces it to be executed in larger time frames, that is, think of 4H or more.
