Hi everybody! What do you think about some somehow hedging the account by putting two P4 with different MAGIC numbers on two windows USD/JPY M15? The second P4 should be put after the first one has already opened position, so that the second P4 opens the position in the other direction.

Ah I am the complete opposite! I can write code no problem (its my career) but I don't know very much about strategies etc. I've had a look at some EA's. I think learning the whole C++ is overkill - C++ has lots of features that are not in MQL4. Just learn MQL4 straight, or learn just C (not C++) to get a feel for syntax etc then learn the MQL4 API (functions etc). Even in C there is no need to learn the standard functions (like string functions). MQL4 will have its own API and knowledge of C functions won't be very useful. I think just learn MQL4 straight. The syntax is logical you will get the hang of it with practice . Don't just keep hitting the compile button and guessing the fixes until it doesn't complain!

Hendrick - looking forward to P5, sounds like it's gonna be awesome. Good luck with the USD/JPY on the contest!

I totally agree with Mun, just learn MQL right away, it's pretty easy!

Hendrick: I am SO looking forward to P5! Right now, P4 is already performing pretty good (6-1) since last Friday.

It's like learning a new language. I have found it difficult so far. I definately will have a try at C then. You guys that know programming ought to program EA's for money. Nothing outrageous, just a fair amount for the EA desired. This will help you learn strategies also. There is a topic on "Whats your favorite indicator". Man I found some good food for thought there and some triable strategies too.

About the MQL tutorial, I found the writer had english as a second language and thus found it hard to follow. It's just me though. It doesn't come real easy.

Lets take Phoenix 5, 2007 to the bank and it will all be for naught.

Just use the reference in MT...No need for tutorial. Everything is there.

Let's assume that you hedge all your positions, can you please explain as to when you expect to make money? Apart from doubling your transactions costs (pay spread twice as opposed to once) all you positions would net out to zero as what you would make on one you would loose on the other?

Let me explain. In Metatrader 4 Alpari you can have both long and short positions at the same time without netting each other. They are independent.
If you put P4 on USDJPY 15min, for example, at 5 am GMT, P4 sells, then you open another chart USDJPY 15 min and put P4 at 7am, P4 buys, and the point is that the first position was opened,for example, at 119.40 (stop 120.22, take - 118.98), the second position BUY at 119.15(stop - 118.33, take 119.57). Yesterday I had similar situation, so I got + from the first position, and second one still fluctuates. As I have noticed, P4 opens positions depending on at what time you put it on the chart. The settings are listed at the top of the testing report. We can test his settings ourselves and see. I would suggest when running optimizing and backtesting tests for comparing multiple test results we use the same percent risk for each test. Changing the risk can skew the comparison results for other settings in my opinion. From personal experience I've found some of my best prior test results came from just trying different combinations and letting the program run for a day. Pure random luck. I'm trying to remember if Hendrick said to always test with preferredsettings=false and then manually entering the defaults settings? I hope nikkei has stumbled on something but I'll defer to Hendrick for further analysis.

Yeah I agree. Especially about some of the pairs, there seems to be a select few that do really well. I think Hendrick will be locked in his room all weekend finalizing P5....

My results so far this week with phoenix 4 has also been poor. We have been in this rangeing market for the past 6 months which phoenix 4 is primed tuned for. I believe we are starting to head into trending market conditions which the added features of phoenix 5 is ready to exploit.
Being able to add onto existing trades is definitly the right direction. Looking forward to it.

At me by optimization quotations Alpari and Velocity have mixed up. Parameters of adjustment yet do not use. Next week I shall write results of new optimization.


Hendric how you think it is necessary to accumulate quotations M1 from each broker to use for testing? In fact results of tests online are at times various at different brokers.
