I know a very basic trading system is the 5/13/62 model. Was wondering if there is a timeframe that it works better with or that is suggested when using, also thoughts on whether to trade the crossover of the 13 over the 62 N to S and vice-versa, rather than waiting for bounce on 62, if bounce occurs and on what timeframe. Thoughts or experiences with this?

This is the system I use and I have had wonderful results with it. You can use any time frame just pick one that you like I trade off the 5min charts but that might not be for you. Try the 15min or the 30min.

This systems works really well I can't believe more people are not trading it. Then again it is too simple and people like to make things hard. I follow the KISS(keep it simple stupid) principle.

I've been adding at least 25% to my account balance on a daily basis with it.

I use trend lines for my projections and CCI set at 5 to tell me when the momentum is getting weak.

Trade when both 5 and 13 cross 62. When the market is trending price will retrace back to the 62 MA before going again in the direction before the retrace. A classic is the GPB/USD, price has now retraced back up to the 62 MA on the daily charts. I call these trades the Johnny come lately, for all those who miss it before.

It works well with news as well I don't care about the news as long as I'm trading off of a longer time frame. The price just likes to bounce from the 62MA. But if you are new to trading I would advise you to close your trades before the news, don't worry about the missed pips you would get them again later when the market settles down.

rchapmand..... what kind of MAs do you use, EMA, SMA, WMA? Thanks for any advice.

Rob Booker is using this system. Ive modified the EMAs and add some additonal MAs a bit to work with London & NY session using the box method. I call it Tiga Abdul Breakout System. Ive been forward testing it for 2 months now, and its 90% accurate.

Anyone interested should sign-up with Rob, thats my recommendation.

Last year (summer of 05) i read Tom DeMark's book "New Science of Technical Analysis", he has used the 13/55 cross for many, many years. I think that one reason Rob might have chosen the 62ema in that it is now his own, and marketable?? Maybe he chose it because it is a play on the 61.8% Fibo?? Anyway if one plots both on a chart there is rarely a couple pips difference.

That said, Tom does not wait for the cross, but rather takes a trade at the first period-close that both the 13 and 55 have taken the same direction. That "day" is the decision day. . . to enter the trade (he uses them primarily of Daily charts, but says it is applicable to intraday trading as well).

There is also an interesting thing that takes place with this cross on some of the intraday charts. For instance, if one were to plot the typical Vegas extensions off the 55 as on the 240m chart (Vegas 4hr) ON A 30 Minute Chart.... then take the intersection of the 13/55 and mark that with a vertical line. Now if 13 crosses up, mark off each of the locations of the intersection of the vertical line and the extensions. If you visually back test you will see these are areas frequented by stalls or consolidation.

Now you have an entry strategy (MAs turning), and a logical exit strategy (Vegas Extensions at 13/55 cross). I've included this in my model since first discovering the Vegas 1hr but used Tom Demark's suggested MAs for the most part. Though i still experiment, things are becoming more clear to me as the model settles down into a more refined state.

There are pips in those fibo MAs as helpers/indicators/heads up tools.

Ok Rob Booker uses this system but he did not invent it. When you spend so much time on the computer like I do you notice alot of things.

Take a look at Achelis__Steven_-_Technical_Analysis_from_A_to_Z.pdf I can't upload the file here as it is too big 10Mb. It talks about Technical analysis. You could put a system together with anything follow your rules and make pips. Just keep it simple.

why do we use 5/13/62 MA's? One they are all fibonacci numbers I know 62 is not but 61.8% is, round this up you get 62. 5 and 13 are very short term MA's and 62 is our round up of 61.8% fibo.

Like any MA's buy and sell the crosses. Have a look at the chart to see what I mean.

I have 5,13,62 EMA's and 62 LWMA all set to the close on my chart. The two 62 MA's are my channel. I'm looking to buy or sell once the 5 and 13 have crossed 62.

Next I use trend lines, support and resistance, for my price pojections then I just follow the price action.

I purchased a commercial system from a trader in Ukraine in 2003 and the entry was a 5 ema crossing a 13 ema on a 1 hour chart.The system was profitable but it only had 54-60% winning trades.I stopped trading it because I didn't like the large number of losing trades.The author recommended not trading on lower time frames even though they give less lag at the entry.
Rob Booker released his free 5/13/62 ema system in 2003 .I found that a long time ago but did not trade it.Rob now recommends trading it on 30 minute, 60minute ,4hour and daily charts.It's great to see you adding modifications and improvements to bank more pips than I expected.

Thanks, appreciated, so basically, does not matter whether one trades on whichever timeframe with this method? What about the issue of when it crosses over N to S and then back and so on?

I'm a huge fan of CCI but the CCI set at 5 jumps all over the place on a 5 minute chart.

5-13-62 is a great system... I use it all the time... and yes learned it from Rob Booker...

But check the posts of adam3000 she is using the same system but 5-20-60... about the same thing...

And I know for a fact she is making tons of money...!!! but she is Vietnam and has advantage of being awake for London session and almost always trades GBP... when the GBP makes those day long runs up or down... she is making 1k - 2k a day !!

No need to lie here what good does that prove. Not every body here is trading on demo accounts or with $5.00 guy. A fellow trader ask a question and I answered. I can make 25% because I take money from people like you, that are looking for holy grails. I have nothing to prove to anyone.

CCI set at 5 is not for trading on the 5min charts, this is for the larger time frames.

Why is it when anybody gives you people a good simple thing you doubt, complain, try to change the system. I've seen it all the time. Any how enough from me about that.

This is the system I use and it is profitable. Don't tell me about anything else. If it's not for you move on.

wont be taking my money ..... i trades vegas' VWB ... i was just saying that %25 a month is a little rediculous .... so rediculous that i dont belive you ... i would belive maybe you had some %25 months .... but no way you are trading %25 a month on avg. ... and if you are please by all means proove me wrong and email me some reports .... if it is true i will be switching to your system asap ..... but for now i'll stick with vegas .... avg %10 a month growth

25% a day may seem a stretch but that aside, this seems to be a good, simple workable approach. Don't know about the CCI as a filter but I hope there will be more discussion by people using this or similar methods.
