I'm very cautious of a Brent long. Oil is not going anywhere near 2014 levels without some sort of major war to push it there.

I would expect 40 before 75.

Im abit under water at the moment with XNGUSD and XBRUSD shorts.....trying to take advantage of some volatility ahead of the storm. Will see how it plays out....

I am working on a trading strategy for the remainder of the year, interested to hear others thoughts on it.

I have started buying NatGas and selling WTI in tandem. I don't plan on consistently scaling up in these positions due to fees and other logistical issues so I will have to make sure I time my trades appropriately. I think the risk/reward is there just have to pull off the execution by avoiding news releases, tracking fees and keeping an eye on the general market trends.

Interesting, what's your reasoning behind that? How are you executing the trade?

WTI has been outperforming for quite awhile, but looks like looks like the ratio keeps getting stopped around 26.

I don't think they're very good substitutes so I'm a little wary of relying on it to not go above 26.

This thing went north without me. My buy order didn't get filled.....
It went all the way beyond my three targets for the day....
Maybe scalp some shorts back towards 2.2383ish?

Nice man... we have just this stall/uncertain week ahead of us... To see what they might cook with the USD and all things that are related to it.. pretty much everything I Hence I might pass this remaining week and model the prices from the analyst perspective only.. without the real trading.. Am really curious if they will settle for SLOW trend or just chaotic spikes.... Some people seem to exclude the price (trend) of the USD into their charts that are most probably against USD itself However NGAS prices are crazy good I might jump on the train myself... but just after I see if this eurusd rebound will happen or we will see the fast dive of it Will be known in less than 5days

A handful of reasons but here is the gist of the logic behind my trade:

I am bullish on NatGas on a medium term horizon (and bearish Oil in a more general sense). I would like exposure to NG gains but worry about oil related news pushing NG in a direction that it is not headed on its own. Although the relationship is not what it used to be oil is still more likely to affect NG prices than the other way around. This set of trades allows me to isolate some of the factors that I want exposure to in NG and consequently is more attractive to me in risk/reward terms.

It also helps that NG is usually more volatile than Oil and as you have noted the ratio between the assets could very well be at its ceiling.

So far the trade has not really worked in my favor. My WTI hedge has cost me more than the gains I have seen in NG but the size of my NG trade was a bit larger so the damage is relatively small. Also, Oil was especially volatile earlier so I still feel ok about the trade overall. I think the move was a one-off reaction to unexpected news so it doesn't change where I think the assets are headed for the remainder of the year.

How are you implementing the trade?

Hopefully through futures or CFDs. I've done pairs trading like this through ETFs in the past and discovered it's not tax efficient.
