Just to be clear, nobody eats cockroaches in Thailand, they are water beetles (maeng daa)

I couldn't eat them. When I first moved here, I sometimes stubbed out half smoked cigarettes and left them in an ashtray outside of the door of my apartment in Bangkok. I noticed when I smoked them in the morning that the filters looked like they'd been nibbled but I couldn't work out why, until one day I caught a cockroach in the act.

No. My mum used to make me eat liver and onions when I was young and I hated it so I don't eat any kind of organs now. I used to smoke Marlboro when I had money, or Wonder cigarettes when I didn't, which was quite often when I first got here! Wonder were 25 baht a pack back then, so about 80 US cents.

Indeed.

In last 9 months, i have only learnt how to protect the capital. i have read first 350 pages and reading them again and again. Everytime i learn some thing new.

FTI, i wish if you can teach us some of compound patterns, if you like to. This may shorten learning curve.

I have gone thru John Hill - Scientific Interpretation of Bar Charts, a lot of time and still read few pattern every day unless they become part of me.

Would like to quote few of your wisdom gems:

"Damage is part of the battle, recovery is essential, victory is the objective." for every trade.

Chances is markets will fill you, Only question is when. A loss is only a loss if you book it

The advantage in a single word would present itself in CONTROL.

"There are no perpetual friends, neither perpetual enemies, only perpetual interest."

do not allow your position to control your mindset, use the dance to adjust your positional mindset. When indoubt, wait for clearer mind. If unclear, use benefit of doubt.

the markets will tell us when the worst is over, rather than the other way around.

basically althought the market is essentially the battlefield. The main fighting is in the mind of the trader. Therefore mindset is paramount.

One attribute that traders must develop, is the ability to let go. To unwind. To laugh at the worst and laugh at the best.

I've found screen time and focus is the key, for me at least. I'm probably doing it all wrong but I mainly go by feel. For instance, I just went long on GBP/USD around 2080 and made a nice little profit before squaring away for the day today and I couldn't tell you why as far as technical analysis is concerned. it just felt like it was going to go up some more. It wasn't going down when I would have expected it to by looking at the movements of other pairs and it looked like it was trying to go up a bit. Terrible explanation I know and I'm probably a terrible trader.

Terrible trader is understatement.
You seemed already become advanced level trader.
Some can tell by sight.
Some can tell just smelling it.
I used to have one worked for me many moons ago.
His call sign is "the nose."
When "the nose" and "itchy backside" concurs. Normally something happens in markets.

I'm not accepting any compliments . But seriously, humility is the only way I can survive, the only way any of us can survive I think. I've noticed if I talk about my profitable trades too much, it ruins my equilibrium (?), my mind goes out of balance. And we are always just one trade away from a bad mistake. I try never to talk about trading to friends and I've asked my wife never to ask me how I'm doing. I've found the same applies to everything else in my life too: if I enjoy any success and begin to become very enthusiastic about something, I try to keep it to myself. Talking seems to drain the positive energy away.

(It's not something I've just discovered for myself really - fti has stressed the importance of humility throughout this thread, and the dangers of arrogance. Sure, you feel like the best trader alive when you square away right near the top of a nice move and then watch it retrace but you need to forget that feeling quickly, or I do anyway.)

EDIT: This may just apply to me but I've found that with a good mindset and bad technical analysis skills, you can still survive and even make a profit. With a bad mindset and good technical analysis skills, you can't.

I second ukmanthailan. Tho i am new and have little experience. i understood that without proper mindset, book will be negative. Market is teaching me so many lessons and somehow i have started recognizing egor in decision making.

I am having peculiar dilemmas these days where in my scout is in trouble, market form tell me flip, but i rescue. I am witnessing this firsthand as if i am 2 persons. One is saying flip, but other is rescuing and trade sinks.

I used to do that but I don't have the stomach for long battles, unless they're really necessary - if it's just a scout I kill it quickly and flip in that situation. I've spent too many days watching trades sink while I'm waiting for a retrace, all the time knowing that I should be in the other way. The danger is, if you do flip and it starts to come back on you, then it's difficult to hold fast as you've already changed your mind once. I had some bad days that were very funny in retrospect - I flipped so many times in ranging markets and died the death of a thousand cuts as I think fti called it. In fact, I flipped so many times that I couldn't remember whether I was long or short once or twice!
