Until people realise gold doesn't have as much use, as it did. When natives danced around the campfire, gold was king. Other than jewelry and for high end electronics its real value is limited. Sure carrying around a few coins, during the apocalypse, may get you past the border. But carrying around 10 pounds would be obvious and the border guards would take it. You would do better with 10 pounds of fast moving lead. Bitcoin or the next new widget will probably have more value. Than guarding a trunk of gold. Gold makes nothing. Owning part of a factory may be a better option. More and more, people are realising, gold has limited value. As time passes, newer generations may realise. They would rather have a Iphone, than a fancy gold watch, or ring. The new widget may have more statice, than gold jewelry.
Times change, salt was at one time as valuable as gold.

totally agree - but where do you keep you money- money flows - from bad assets to good assets - bitcoin has the same lack of intrinsic value
for the apocalypse - guns might work better so electronic gold for now.
i had bars of gold on last bull market few years ago - total stress and cost of keeping them at the bank and guess what happens with my gold on a bank run . was actually stored in box value but i still don't trust them and was hard to sell it - and then somebody was left with it - hiding it in his house and of course staying to guard it )

my view is simple - they are printing money like crazy - country's are borrowing like never before. I am not trying to make a case for gold but it's a race to devalue currency's all over the world - and my "guess' is than when USA will slow and begin to try to take the dollar down the financial system will have to make some adjustment

You are in decent growth world wide with rates going down - and yields going to unseen levels

so what do you buy today - it's not am apocalypse scenario just a global coordinated attempt to get inflation .
And for now 10 years of quantitative easing has not produce any inflation - wow

I remember when TARP was printing. I think it was 700 billion. Commodities were dropping. I know I'm counter culture. But as long as people like Steve Jobs is making people believe they need some widget. Those people will have less money for ancient customs. A Asian teenager may have a 1k ring on his finger. I think the odds are better he has a 1k iphone in his pocket. That reduces the capitol to buy gold rings and such. I know the older generations dont embrace this concept. Most of us have been conditioned over generations to think gold was valuable. Especially now with the doomsayers on tv marketing it. I bet and the end of the week those actors get a check. I bet they cash it for dollars.

I mean, if gold is so valuable, and it will be worth more tomorrow. Why sell it? Why take paper money in exchange? Those people are selling a dream. It's good marketing. Iphone has better marketing..

I agree but moves on the market are not made by those you've said - Asian teenager or any other retail with 1k in their pokets
they don't move the markets - big huge funds and quants move them. they have the "fundamentals" all they need to to is turn the algorithms ON
also you have big national banks who are more into "fundies" and but as they gold is peaked.

not really.. not really.. If that were true, gold would have been at 10K a decade ago. But funds are not always correct. Funds dont buy for the hell of owning something. They buy in the hope (educated guess) something will have a future demand (increase price). The shell hoarders of the past, are long forgotten. The Phoenicians are long gone. They dont control salt or gold anymore. Once some of the richest people in the world. Just like the Mexican Fajitas I ate. This too shall pass. Wash rinse repeat. Something will take the place. And someone will be there to market it.. Gold was a form of currency to exchange value. Newer forms will come. Pressing a button on a computer can do this now. It's much easier/cheaper than hiring a truck with a guard to deliver it. Gold will always have some electronic and jewelry uses, (or unforeseen future use) this will keep some value. But its use as currency exchange is shrinking. But that dont mean u cant make money trading it or bitcoin, eu, salt etc. Keeping a few coins to pay off a border guard is a good idea.
