Putting Trumps reason for rate cuts aside, the Fed is behind the curve. The markets are nowhere near mid business cycle, it is at the end of the cycle. Just pull up a ISM chart (business cycle barometer) and its on its way down and heading below 50. Compound that with poor PMI's generally below 50 along and a inverted yield curve and we have alarm bells. This is going to have knock on effects on corporate earnings which means that buy backs will start to diminish. Once markets start going down you will see mass selling as most the positions are highly leveraged by cheap credit post the 2008 financial crisis thanks to QE and zero interest rates. All is well when you have a 10 year credit and buy back induced bull market, but we have seen before how vulnerable the markets are to mass sell offs. The one that is coming is going to huge and global

I wonder if there actually will be a presidential candidate other than Trump. By then rates are probably near zero, more than a trillion dollar debt a year added to the already outrageous US debt plus a record high trade deficit. And a trade war with half the globe.

The guy after Trump is basically a dead duck before he starts his term, all ammo is virtually blown away at peak cycle. Should have impeached him now there's no hope, this will end in tears.

You must have been in Trumps class at school...Tariffs are charged on imports and paid by Americans who buy the good after importers recover the tariffs paid by including it in the price charged for items sold to consumers.

Th overall impact of tariffs is decreased imports from China but also less exports from USA as well since they are picking tariff fights with everyone and their dog.

The funny thing is he is in the same geographical region with Powell and co, he should get someone from the white house to secretly or openly have an understanding/reasoning meeting with FED to get what he wants, so why is he telling the world to pressure FED to cut? To rebuild the US manufacturing infrastructure, the US needs low interest rates. Construction would be as beneficial to the US as it was in China. It's obvious, the Fed is in the way of a US manufacturing renascence.

Today NZ cut their rate by 0.5% and nobody blanked an eye and everybody went crazy because Trump asked to cut the rates in order to have more liquidation in the market which Leads for more investments and higher economic development. Despite his craziness I think it is good step now to cut the the rate.

Well Gold has been in an uptrend since the last quarter of last year and since all market cycles complete it is only logical that we are talking Gold at highs at this time. What is funny, is that like most other assets the talk by analysts (supposedly concerned with the longer term outlook of assets but more interested in noise) about day to day news events (such as is being commented on now on this thread), most people are blinded to whats going on and this is not just Gold but across most assets. So now people wake up and are told "Trump" said this or that and has caused some massive movement in the Gold market. But that is a huge laugh if in fact the Gold market (as we all know) is cyclical and Gold has been growing steadily north since the last quarter of 2018.
