WTI: RECOVERY FROM CHINA DATA-LED DIP EXTENDS BEYOND $ 60 MARK

  1. Risk-on wave grips Europe, aids WTI recovery from weak China GDP-led drop.
  2. Gains remain capped as US refineries remain operational despite Storm Bary.
  3. Easing Iranian geopolitical tensions and USD uptick to keep recoveries in check.

WTI (futures on Nymex) is seen enjoying good two-way price movements so far this Monday, having dipped to 59.85 on sluggish Chinese growth numbers in the Asian trades.

The bulls managed to fight back control in the European session amid a renewed risk-on wave, as reflected by higher Treasury yields and US equity futures. Further, the European equity markets are recovering the early losses.
However, the latest reports hinting towards easing geopolitical tensions surrounding the Iranian nuclear commitments and a broad-based US dollar recovery raise doubts on the strength of the latest oil-price recovery.

A spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran noted that Tehran is reducing its commitments to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in order to launch a diplomatic mechanism to save the nuclear deal.
Moreover, the further upside could remain capped amid no immediate supply risks, as the US refineries, in the face of Tropical Storm Barry, continued to operate despite flood threats. Meanwhile, markets continue to weigh in the slowest expansion in the Chinese economy over the last 27 years and its impact on the crude oil demand.
Focus now shifts towards the US weekly crude supply reports and fresh trade/ geopolitical developments for the next direction on the prices.

I could well be on the wrong side Li,when the news dries up there will be no driving force for oil, can only see it going one way, just my opinion, D

Already burned my fingers last friday. Waiting for WTI to pick a clear direction on a higher timeframe. My general view is short but the api and eia inventory numbers were realy good so use the upcoming news as an advantage.

The viscosity of oil allows it to be dragged along with equities as they continue their surge into nose-bleed altitudes. Amazing performance in equities as the sheep, the lemmings, and the stupid push us ever closer to Catastropia, the time and place where it all ends.

WTI H4 bounced off of EMA20 again, this time at ~59.9. Supply worries can perhaps explain its surge. Must be the same for equities: supply worries, a shortage of equities. We need more equities to stave off catastrophe!

I had the 60.67 as a top TC, realising there was no pressure down closed at BE and got in higher, missed the top though, got back in 60.47, your spot on with your analogy, gravity winsD

Wrt to today high will be 60.78 61.28

And low will be 59.78 59.28

Well done sponge, I'm looking at the 4hr for direction, if it re-creates the previous setup on the chart I'm in short, the expectation could be to bounce off the rising supp line or best case shoot through, D
