Hedging to open is always a bad idea because you pay 2(spread+commission). Conversely, hedging to close costs the same as any other close (nothing) provided you use the closeby or multiple-closeby order. I recently discovered that you can also do it manually. Example: {image} {image}

Yes this function I first time used in two trades yesterday , both were hedged position and proved profitable . But what I noted it , will keep you in one live trade which is running in profit . 2nd the position you want to remain in should be in profit over all

Hi @Nicholishen did you ever get a fix to stop re-initializing after TF change?

Any idea what this error is after clicking 'Order Maintenance'? I tested yesterday and it worked fine has the broker disabled it?

For mt4 it's OK. Mt5 has two way commission options. So its easy to get commissioned before we close the hedge. Some brokers it's OK. But some brokers it can get charged when we open order

Hello Nicholishen,

great work and light fast!

Also thank you for sharing the source code.

Any chance to add a couple of buttons to insert pending orders at a certain pip distance?

cheers

Diego

Hello. First of all let me thank the OP for sharing this nice EA. I don't even understand the principle how it works (pardon my ignorance), but I've tried it on demo and it works like magic, in my case for closing multiple trades simultaneously with no loss due to delay. Only problem remains the fact that it disappears when changing TF or after dragging a different pair onto the chart. Nicholishen has not posted since May, but I find it hard to believe, since the mq4 has been provided, no coders on FF are capable of modifying it efficiently. Anyone up for the challenge?

I know, I know... we've all said it before, hedging is f*** stupid because it costs you double in fees, right? Well that's actually not (always) the case. There's a neat little hidden gem in MT that's almost entirely undocumented and almost never used by developers (ever) that's called OrderCloseBy. What this function does is takes hedged orders and reconciles the transactions as netted. This allows you to do some neat things we'll talk about in a minute, but for now it's important to understand that if you use this method you are not charged double...

Hello again. As I said in my previous post, I'm used to trade many positions (at times really a lot!) and at the moment to close them it was a real pain to see them get different prices as the executions would happen in sequence. It was a beauty to see how this EA works and I couldn't stand the idea to be limited by changing the TF on a chart, so since my previous request to correct the problem fell on deaf ears (pity Nicholishen is nowhere to be contacted, but 1 million kudos to him again!), I paid a coder myself to do it, and I don't mind sharing it here. Now it won't crash when changing TF or dragging a different pair to the chart. Also the panel can be dragged around the chart at one's will. It cost me a bit more than I thought it would, but, believe me, it's worth every penny! To use it, just delete the old files and paste the content of the zip file into the Experts folder. Happy belated Christmas!

You're welcome, mate. It surely doesn't make me poorer to share it. From the limited number of posts in this thread, I believe that people haven't really grasped the value of this idea. So I thought I would add what I could to bring it back to surface, in the hope that more fellow traders would take advantage of it.

Thanks for sharing it.
Have you used it?
I played with it and the MAINTENANCE button only works after the open orders are hedged (using the CLOSE ALL button)
and we will charged commissions for every trade we hedge.
So it seems that we can avoid some slippage on the closing of the individual orders but we will pay 2 lots of commissions .
Have a nice day

Of course it won’t make poorer to share it. You paid the coder and then you share it with us...in my opinion that says a lot about you.. Have a great trading.

Of course I have! I use it every day and it's become an essential tool for my trading now. The principle is exactly the opposite of what you are reporting: commissions are paid only once. Again, I have no idea how it works code-wise but both versions, the original and the one I got modified, work exactly the way the OP describes in his first post. I'm not sure what could be wrong on your side. I hope it's not broker dependent... (I have used it on 4 different brokers without problems though)
I'm attaching a screenshot with 2 batches of buy trades that I took today on a live account. As you see, the commissions match the cost of only one leg of each single trade.

Ok thanks, I will try it on a different broker

Btw, I noticed that your modified panel stops moving after we change time frame or after changing currency pairs.
The buttons continue to work but the panel is no longer movable on the chart.
If I try and drag it on the chart, the various objects & text seem to be coming off it but the whole panel does not move.

Anyway, I made another panel version which is stable and I'm attaching it here.
Some of the files have been modified so although they have the same name as before they are slightly different
so please remember to overwrite all the previous mqh type files or to delete them.
As usual, extract everything into the MQL4/Experts folder.

cheers
Bill

You're right! I didn't notice before because I don't need to change TF or pairs as I only trade 1 pair at a time and keep the EA in a dedicated chart, using it only to manage open trades. Thanks very much for the update. Only a little blip: as you see in the pic, after moving the panel it leaves that text on the chart. Not important at all especially for me, but just to keep the chart clean... I'm sure you would be able to fix it. Thanks.

Sorry about this
Just replace the file controls\dialog.mqh and then recompile

Here are the steps
Delete the Hedgepanel2.ex4 (only the ex4 file and not the mq4 version)
Paste the attached file into MQL4/Experts/Controls folder (Make sure you overwrite the old dialog file)
Restart or refresh MT4
