Antipodean Search and Rescue teams report this daily occurence, as young hopefuls arrive searching for enlightenment and someone they refer to as "Master George". Many of the followers are without visible means of support other than possession of an alleged "boundless mind-set." Often when asked about accounts they may have, they whisper "just Demo." Apparently their quest is related to a "Project of Innovations" which will require them to stare for up to 40,000 hours.

Hi @robots4me (https://www.forexfactory.com/robots4me)

I'm looking for an indicator which gives me an alert when price reaches yesterday's low or high. The indicator should also give an alert when price misses yesterday's high/low by less than 5 pips. It should track the high/lows for the past 10 days.

Regards,

bidzah

Repainting Revisted...

@bishopdotun -- you know, I kept thinking about your post and I think I now have had a change of heart about the repainting issue related to @SwingMan's LazyTMA indicator. No doubt repainting is not a desirable quality of an indicator. But @SwingMan's LazyTMA works so well for this type of reversal trading, then it kept gnawing at me if there was a way for us to take advantage of it. And, @bishopdotun, your post motivated me to revisit this issue.

So, let me explain...

Repainting occurs when an algorithm goes back in time to readjust its previous computations based on the latest / greatest data. The ZigZag indicator is the classic example. Given the last 20 bars (or whatever length you define), it draws a line between the highest High and the lowest Low. But each new bar may become the highest High or lowest Low, so that line keeps getting redrawn. In hindsight it looks like the ZigZag does a perfect job of picking out peaks and valleys -- but it is not tradable because those peaks and valleys were drawn in hindsight.

@SwingMan's LazyTMA repaints, but it is rather subtle -- not like the ZigZag indicator. But now I'm thinking it may be okay -- for two reasons:

1. SpikerHunter also applies a momentum filter, which acts like a "policeman". If the LazyTMA were to generate a bogus signal then the momentum filter would reject it. That is, the momentum filter acts like a safeguard.

2. SpikeHunter currently supports 5 envelope-type signal generators (and I'll be adding a 6th shortly). And even though their curves look different, in the end they all seem to work okay when it comes to detecting spikes. These spikes are extreme prices and when they occur they are obvious, right? I mean, you really don't need an indicator to see when a spike occurs.

Since these other envelope-type signal generators work okay and since their curves are different and since spikes are so extreme and since LazyTMA's repainting is subtle and since we have a filter that acts like a policeman -- then, now, I'm thinking it probably is okay to go with @SwingMan's LazyTMA as the signal generator.

I'll be adding a 6th envelope-type to SpikeHunter shortly -- it's based on a "centered TMA". It works very nicely, but I think there is also some subtle repainting going on.

Again, @bishopdotun, thanks for your post. It was the push I needed to think about this more deeply.

By minimizing period of calculation but look up at higher TF then it will also minimizing the 'repainting' potential.

@Nih98 -- very nice -- thank you. I will also add these to SpikeHunter so people can easily experiment with a variety of different envelope types.

Headley Bands https://www.mql5.com/en/code/22412 I've updated the SpikeHunter indicator to include another envelopes option -- Headley Bands. {image} Headley Bands do not appear to repaint and seem to work well. They may have fewer false positives, but that may also mean fewer true signals. SpikeHunter now supports 5 different types of envelopes -- M1 TMA, Keltner ATR, ATR Envelope, Headley and @Swingman LazyTMA. The LazyTMA bands look to be the best, but as I've mentioned before their repainting is a deal-breaker. Of the other 4, I don't...

I think SpikeHunter's signal is effective. I have been exploring the indexes of NIH98 for a long time and I am very interested in the content shared by your topic. It makes sense, obviously in sharing. I hope you continue to share so that new people like me can approach the problem quickly, learn the essence, the core of the method. Thanks R4M!

Hey @Aussi -- you stole my idea for a thread "How to trade M1 TMA in less than 10000 hours".

Seriously, though we've had a few chuckles at the expense of the Dark Side, I don't think creating such a thread is a good idea. They are their own worst enemy. The more they post the more obvious it becomes. If you create a thread devoted solely to mocking @George et al then "the family" will get even more defensive since they see @George as a victim.

@moodybot tried something similar a week or so ago -- creating a thread with a title very similar to mine. His sole intention was to mock my thread. He must of had second thoughts or was notified by FF, since his mocking thread was "binned" not too long after he created it.

Their ship is sinking -- let's let them do it on their own.

To all -- I just received a PM from some friends -- they've been temporarily suspended.
@skyway, @TopCover, @Robot Trader and @Alphadude.

This is the work of @bluesteele (Kevin) and @moodybot. @bluesteele has done this multiple times to me, as well. And I may be next -- yet, again. I've written to the admin to request that Kevin be stripped of this privilege. It is also a conflict of interest because the suspensions are simply to shutdown anyone who disagrees with @George.

With all the insults and name calling coming from @George et al I have so far resisted requesting that his posts be cleaned up. But no more. I will go through everyone of his posts and request that every post that refers to fellow traders here as trash or prostitutes be removed.

Also, his pod cast refers to me (and others) as forum prostitutes. I will also point this out to the admin and request the links to the pod cast be removed.

I don't have any grudge against @George, but from here on out I want Kevin and Andy to know that for every dirty trick they play on me or my thread they will be creating a bit more aggravation for @George. @George is lonely and simply wants some experienced traders to trade with. Andy and Kevin are using him. They won't stop until @George tells them to stop.

@bluesteele's suspensions of @Nih98, @skyway, @TopCover, @Robot Trader and @Alphadude (and perhaps more) were the act of a desperate man who saw his ship sinking.

@George only wanted some experienced trading company but @moodybot and @bluesteele empowered him to repackage his unteachable trading system as an attraction to the masses. I truly believe that @George is kind-hearted. The drama that followed @George around was created by @moodybot and @bluesteele who have a history here at FF. They took advantage of @George's desire for companionship and pushed him where he shouldn't have gone. And as a result there are probably hundreds of people who collectively wasted thousands of hours trying to figure out how to trade according to @George's methodology.

Last two posts from @moodybot (Andy) and @bluesteele (Kevin) -- sort of a parting farewell F-U to everyone -- including @George's family. And perhaps I was also fooled by @George as well, thinking he was just a kind-hearted old man who got sucked into it. @George "liked" @moodybot's and @bluesteele's F-U posts to everyone.
