I started testing and it works, as in it does open trades. I attached it to the USDCHF 30 min chart, with my setfile, that I posted before. Let's see how it does.

Okay, so as the week is coming to a close, I want to share my results.

Started with around $1400 in a demo account and made $49.55 with no open trades.
All in all a good week, but the drawdown was around $200 at one point. Maybe I will address that in the next week.

That's great news - I'm truly glad it is working for your broker.

A “feature” of the strategy is the deep DD. As explained above I’m not scared by that as I am confident that price will return. In my live account I have the max DD set to 80% however I only select settings that result in 50% or less DD in testing. Rolling 3+ years test data shows that with careful selection and monitoring the ea will make money. I have had trades last as long as 3 months which can be disquieting but it was fun when the price turned and came back to profit. The answer is not to lose your nerve but to stick with the strategy and keep testing each month to ensure settings are consistent with the current market conditions.

Part of your testing should include calculating the minimum, average and maximum trade length and time between trades. That way you won't be losing sleep worrying when a trade is open for 120 days .

If the large DD does represent an issue for you then you can control it to some extent by reducing the lot size using the parameter "Fine tune lot size" - this is a multiplier so if you test various values from say 0.4 through 1.0 you can see what that does to the max DD - though of course the profit will be affected as well. The other way of course is to reduce the % of the account you are prepared to use to open the trade.

Hi,
the problem will be when it runs away and you wait 5 years (usdcad), 3 years (eurusd) etc.
it does not protect either the reduction of the lot size, neither the dd value nor the "time sl".
It wants sl and a positive win / loss ratio, then this MM can be applied, otherwise you'll delete the account sooner or later

Agreed - I've been looking for a way to do that which is why I have the parameter pair for maximum negative time/negative %. Other ways to manage the risk are to reduce the maximum lot size and /or the % of the account you use to open a position.

IMHO setting a specific SL is a negative approach which guarantees unnecessary realised losses. I'd hate to count the number of times the price has just hit my SL and then reversed. As I noted above there are some very experienced traders who believe that there is a market maker who specifically moves the prices to take out congested stop areas.

Having said all of that if you have a better suggestion (especially with code samples or where to set stops) please share and we can test it out - I'm all for improving this which is why I put it out here.

I've been looking at Woodies CCI as a potential exit indicator though without much success. If anyone has a suggestion for a really good exit indicator please share.

Some significant changes in the latest version of the EA (Version 1.4). New version in Post #1

Summary of changes:
1. Added a new "exit indicator" - Gann HiLo Activator - if you run version 1.4 with the parameter "run with new code activated?" set to True the EA will check this indicator value and will exit according to the rule - if a BUY order and indicator is less than the Ask the order will be closed. If a SELL order and the indicator is above the Bid the order will be closed. NOTE- all other exit tests remain in place - this is an additional exit indicator.

2. Added new parameter "Maximum active orders all magics"
Setting this value to greater than 1 results in a change to the lot order size calculation based on the available Free Margin. So for example if the "Maximum active orders all magics" is 2 the free margin will be divided by 2 and then the lot size will be calculated. If "Maximum active orders all magics" is 3 the free margin will be divided by 3 and so on.
This has a significant impact on the DD and the profit, however it also tends to smooth the equity curve.

3. Added a display panel to the bottom right of the chart window. This shows the following:
a) The maximum % drawdown reached since the program commenced running.
b) The current maximum % drawdown reached for open orders (if no open orders it displays the last maximum % drawdown)
c) The reason the previous order was closed as follows:
GANN - the Gann HiLo Activator indicator signalled a reversal
STDDEV - the order profit reached the 13 period standard deviation profit target
OsMA - the smoothed OsMA indicated a trend reversal
Profit - a fixed profit % was reached
Time - you have set a maximum time for an order to be in loss and this was reached
QMP - the QMP indicator reversed immediately after the entry was triggered - a BreakEven stop loss was set
DrawDown - the maximum % relative drawdown was reached (hopefully you will never see this)

4) When an order is open - the account equity at the time the OrderSend function was triggered. Otherwise the equity @ close of the order.

How many times do I need to say it? It is up to YOU to TEST for the settings for YOUR BROKER, YOUR PREFERRED TIME FRAME, and YOUR PREFERRED PAIR. You've been given a freebie - up to you to choose to use it or not.

I would need to open a new account just for this EA as my current account contains the ugly history of my previous unsuccessful attempts to trade with other systems.
