For example, if you are a developer for a software company, you know your job is to do job A, but because the entire company had no capability to do it so you figure maybe you could do it, find ways to fix the issue, but first you have to go do job B and job C and job D, to gain the necessary knowledge to complete job A. For some it might be more pragmatic exercising the way "One cannot be too cautious" (by Steve Nison - regarding trading). The younger you're, the more chances/ times you may try from the scratch...
