In order of importance how I was taught:

1) Projection takes difference from point 1 to 2 times by key fib ratios and adds it to point 3, reverse for downtrend.

2) Extension takes difference of point 1 to 2 and times by key fib ratios and adds it back to point 2, again reverse for downtrend.

3) Expansion takes a key reversal point (in this case swing low bar (marked with 1 and 2) as well as first wave up (marked with 1 and 2A) measures it and times by key fib ratios and adds to point 1, once again reverse for downtrend.

Thank you very much.

For extensions , do you apply it to corrective waves??

Also do you agree that there is a confusion between these names?? Even in trading books!!

Yes there has been name confusion with these techniques.

Extensions are also sometimes called external retracments - meaning a retrace that is greater than 100%.

And they are used in both cases, corrective and impulse waves.

Such as measuring wave B to find a possible wave C end - as well as measuring wave 2 to find possible a wave 3 end, and wave 4 for a wave 5 end.

So thats how I understand. I draw Fib line between swing high and low , above 100% = expansions and below 0% are extensions??
