you are calling other ” morons” in a very aggressive way and yet you are telling me I troll other peoples and can’t comment with respect and openness and that I m polluting this forum ?!

true, noone call this martingale , its simple one position splitted in different parts, because this strategy dont have very good entry points, and so need to choose area trading and not price trading. however, some call things wrong. when there is a small setted SL (so only small loss in account after all orders closed) then its never ever martingale strategy...

I totally do understand the point, but why not averaging up instead of averaging down then ?

Because averaging down means buying at a weaker “optimal price” regarding your analysis, so when this price level has been violated you try to reward yourself by buying “in average” at a better price by adding to this position, at a price that is possible only because you were wrong at the first place...

I could go further by saying that all losses on down averaging were from retracements, however this is not possible on the prices that jump right away without any pullbacks, because buying on pullbacks and even worse “averaging down” prevent you from those big winners.

i dont like both, because always its much more win with one good placed order at one place. but when some dont have good strategies, area trading is maybe better for them, much less win, but maybe they can live with it. and its same , for averaging down or up.....(but up in good trend you are correct, but depends on your triggers to defind good trend on beginning....). the advantage in up is you can set each as new tradem, because old is already in win and you can secure it... but i am really more a fan of all trade amount in one place, maybe because its difficult enough to get many amount filled there...

I am not sure I understood it all, but if so ;

Yes I don’t like averaging up or down, maybe for certain strategies it might be suitable but better averaging up than down IMO.

Also yes we could speak a while about entry triggers, because of the scalability for example, as well as the R:R:R, the limit order gives a better entry price without slippage but gives the risk to miss on skyrocket trades and buying loosing trades on fading momentum.

The stop order in the other hand means a confirmation from the momentum and can very well protect us with a trailing stop giving us a dynamic loss.

yes to all.
i only use limit, market is to risky with higher order amounts... because you only get whats there in the moment and you cant say anything against, so even a limit order with negative slippage to the actuall market price (so marketorder with some place protection) is the only way to know to get it for a max worst price, and only so all is possible to calculate very fast, if the risk is worth the price... and this style its filled near all the time very fast..
Anyway, martingale is just mortgaging, don’t mortgage your losses is all...

If your losing money then stop trading and making the FX brokers richer. You can paper trade and learn without losing any money. Some brokerage houses even allow you to open demo trading accounts. During the gold rush it was said that the only people making money were the guys selling pick axes and shovels.

I totally agree on the matter. There might be a pattern or patterns that make you lose. You should focus on finding and changing them. And also why don't you try different spheres of life to grow in, this might give you an insight or trigger your growth.
it depends how many HOURS you actually dedicate to this thing. in my experience it took me around 3000 hours to learn programming, analyse, backtest, demo test (always auto), plan etc.. and probably 50 hours of live manual trading to stop losing. I can't say I'm profitable because I'm still down about 7k euro... and recovery doesn't happen overnght when you use stop losses.. but overall I'm happy because I'm up 5% since the beginning of july

EDIT: it could have taken much less if I had ignored everyone from the beginning .

If I risk 1% / trade and the average frequency of trades is 2 /month, I'm an idiot.

if I risk 2% / trade and the frequency of trades is >10 trades/month... I'm a complete idiot.

If my account is small and the frequency of trades is low and I risk 2% / trade I'm an idiot...

so ?? we are all idiots... the important is to learn from our mistakes.
