just for my curiosity, why FXCM UK only?? why not anyone else's demo account. when I filled the details for demo account, the system takes me directly to the plateform without giving me any user name or password. that's strange. let me try one more time when I reach home from work. thanks.

All my 15 years of trading Forex , I have mainly used the FXCM Platform to trade with. I scale in my positions. I cannot use MT 4 or any version of that platform so I am an expert with this platform. It is easy to open up the Demo account just enter your information and choose $50,00 US Funds and then you will have what you see on my screenshot.

Making Sense of the Market's Split Personality

December was pretty much straight down in the stock market, with accompanying weakness in other assets, such as oil and high yield bonds. January has been pretty much straight up, with reversals in all those asset classes. How can we make sense of this "schizophrenic" market behavior?

An excellent blog post from David Moenning on the NAAIM site offers worthwhile perspective. When Fed Chair Powell indicated continued shrinkage of the balance sheet and the possibility of future rate hikes, the market sold off hard that very afternoon and didn't look back. The weakness was broad: on December 24th, we registered 50 stocks making fresh one-month highs and 3158 hitting new one-month lows. On that day, among the SPX stocks, we saw fewer than 5% of all shares trading above their 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100-day moving averages.

In other words, pretty much everything was down.

Fast forward to Friday's close, January 18th. Over 90% of SPX shares are trading above their 3, 5, 10, and 20-day moving averages. A total of 1916 stocks across all exchanges registered fresh one-month highs against 67 new one-month lows.

In other words, pretty much everything is up.

Moenning, in his post, traces this reversal to the Fed's walking back their earlier "hawkishness", as they indicated flexibility in navigating the rate and balance sheet paths going forward. Their hawkish stance was a game changer for institutional investors and led to a broad risk off. Their flexible stance was an equal game changer and led to broad risk on.

What does this tell us? Several things, I believe:

1) Any effort to foretell the market's path with technical indicators, chart patterns, and wave structures is inherently limited in value. We cannot operate with a crystal ball when game-changing events are occurring in real time. Flexibility in managing money is just as important as "conviction".

2) Monetary policy is a major driver of asset pricing. This is the message from Ray Dalio's recent work. The Fed is walking a narrow bridge in normalizing rates and not adding fuel to a strong economy versus pulling away the punch bowl and risking weakness. The Fed has told us they don't want to fall off either side of the bridge, so we can expect balancing messaging at market extremes, as Chairman Powell and Co. seek Dalio's "beautiful deleveraging".

3) Investors are behaving as a herd. For over 90% of stocks to be above their 20-day moving averages, all sectors have to be bought. Ditto when fewer than 5% were above their moving averages. Everyone is singing from the same hymnbook. This makes short-term breadth measures and short-term measures of upticks versus downticks handy in trading with the market's momentum. It also means that fighting the herd is a losing proposition.

Of course, this, too, shall pass. At some point valuations will matter and we'll see diverging behavior among stocks and assets. So far, however, it appears that momentum is the upcoming starting pitcher.

I traded on FXCM's TS2 from 2006 until 2014/15 until they were booted out of USA and brought my spot FX journey to a halt. It is the BEST platform imo. I would not trade on anything else. Since I already had US based account with them, I don't believe they will allow. I tried in the past and they would not let me but probably now things are different. You need UK account for CFDs looking at the arrangement of pairs you analyze for money flows.

Notes From Underground: Germany and France Codify the Premise of Europe
In a desperate attempt to deflect from the damage to his presidency, Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday codified what Bernard Connolly has written about for 25 years. As Charles de Gaulle supposedly said to Konrad Adenauer: “Europe is France and Germany, the rest trimmings.” In a resurrection of European history, Angela Merkel and Macron signed a new Treaty of Aachen. While the treaty language is vapid, the symbolism cannot be minimized. Germany and France promise to come to each other’s defense if attacked while also promising to work for a more unified financial and fiscal system.

There is also speculation that France will work for Germany to get a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council, especially since France doesn’t wish to give up its permanent seat. This is an absolute joke as it would take the unanimous vote of the Security Council. Any odds on Russia, China or the U.S. giving away its current authority to allow another European Union member a seat. Then when you throw in the U.K. and the state of Juncker’s vengeful behavior in regards to Brexit there is ZERO chance of Germany being a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council.


In regards to fiscal harmonization and a full European system of financial and banking insurance, Merkel said: “Take for example, business taxes or insolvency–much is historically structured in very different ways.We won’t change that overnight,it will take two decades.” Macron believes that those who oppose greater German/French reconciliation are doomed to repeat the past of the darkest moments of European history. President Macron, in my humble opinion, you just elevated the “yellow vests,” Brexit and the Italian government by engaging in an action that exemplifies the fears that many of the populists of Europe have in regard to Brussels.

Also, in an effort to bring about a harmonized financial system and EUROBOND you have raised concerns among the Hanseatic League of who will be the major creditors for a massive EUROBOND: France with a GDP/DEBT ratio of 98%, Italy with a 132% ratio, Greece, Spain. And, oh yes, Germany.


In a further blow to the sanity of policy makers in Europe, on January 19 the Financial Times ran an article titled, “Time to Ditch Brexit, Say German Political and Business Leaders.”

In a Letter to the Times of London, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (aka AKK), head of the CDU, “called on Britain to abandon its departure from the EU.” She was joined by other German political leaders from the Social Democrats and Green Party, as well as the heads of large business federations and trade unions.

The FT article notes that German business are very worried about Germany’s large investments in the U.K. as well as “bilateral trade in goods and services estimated to be worth $200 billion a year.” In addition, Norbert Rottgen, chairman of the Bundestag foreign affairs committee, hoped the letter would be a “nudge in the direction of a second referendum.”


The letter is pathetic as its tries to lighten the ridiculous by noting British humor, drinking after work in the pubs and having tea with milk. The timing of such an effort to push for a second referendum is complete insanity and makes the idea of Brexit even more desirable. The European elites are shameless. As usual, the insouciance is a result of the negative impact on Europe’s largest economy. Tuesday’s Aachen Treaty and Saturday’s German Letter leave me searching for some real leadership coming to the front because Europe is clueless.


The key to the entire EU financial edifice remains A EUROBOND, but if they cannot agree on the ultimate creditor then it will indeed take Merkel’s two decades. The EU economy is slowing. For me, I will buy the German bonds and sell the French as the most conservative play on the uncertainty plaguing the European political economy.


***Tuesday night the BOJ is expected to release its interest rate decision. The consensus calls for rates to remain at NEGATIVE 10 BASIS POINTS with no change in the QQE program. The quantity of assets the BOJ is purchasing is relevant only for the equity markets. Current policy has so badly broken the BOND market is already so badly it has little or no semblance of meaning. THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE as the BOJ and Kuroda will cite global economic uncertainties and lack of inflation in Japan to remain on hold.

The YEN has been strong against the euro and other currencies so the BOJ has another variable to keep it steady as it goes. An important CURRENCY CROSS to watch is the CHF/YEN as both have relevance as they are deemed haven currencies.

Swiss National Bank Governor Andrea Maechler said Tuesday justified the central bank’s currency intervention thusly: “Our mandate is not to defend the Swiss franc, but price stability. We have seen that if the franc is too strong, inflation goes negative.”

The SNB has through its currency intervention process rendered the communiques of the G-7 and G-20 NULL AND VOID.

The continued SNB rationale is what sustains being long GOLD and short various currencies. Everybody can say that currency intervention is part of a central bank’s mandate, although the U.S. is the only actual nation with a legislative mandate. Next up: The ECB on Thursday.

According to this report, during the course of the 2016 US Presidential Election, the SVR extensively documented how Hillary Clinton and the Obama Regime conspired in a plot to destroy Donald Trump—whose most basic outlines involved Clinton funneling millions-of-dollars to her Perkins Coie law firm—that Perkins Coie then funneled to the Washington D.C. political opposition firm Fusion GPS—with Fusion GPS then funneling these monies to former British MI6 agent Christopher Steele to create the made up Trump-Russia Dossier—and whose sole purpose of Steele testified under oath in a London court was to give Clinton a means to contest her election loss to Trump.
Once former MI6 agent Christopher Steele finished completing Hillary Clinton’s made up Trump-Russia Dossier, this report details, it was given to Perkins Coie attorney Michael Sussmann—who was a former US Department of Justice attorney and close friend of top FBI attorney James Baker, who is now under criminal investigation for his crimes against Trump—and whose sordid attempt to bring down Trump reveals:

Sussmann’s firm paid Glenn Simpson’s Fusion GPS opposition-research firm to hire British intelligence operative Christopher Steele to create the now-infamous dossier suggesting Trump and Moscow colluded during the 2016 election.
By the time Sussmann reached out, Steele’s dossier already was inside the FBI. Sussmann augmented it with cyber evidence that he claimed showed a further connection between the GOP campaign and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Some was put on a thumb drive, according to Baker.
Baker’s detailed account illustrates how a political connection — Sussmann and Baker knew each other — was leveraged to get anti-Trump research to FBI leaders.

One day after Bridgewater founder and billionaire Ray Dalio told a Davos panel that the "one thing that scares him the most" is that during the next downturn in global growth, which will hit both markets and the economy, central banks will have virtually no ammo to spark another rebound, Dalio's top lieutenant, Greg Jensen, who is co-chief investment officer of the world's biggest hedge fund (excluding various central banks, of course) said "he sees a more negative outlook for growth than the markets and policy makers."
"While people have certainly diminished their growth expectations and you’re hearing all about that at Davos, we don’t think they’ve done it enough," he told Bloomberg TV during an interview from the World Economic Forum, effectively warning that the coming drop will be worse than (virtually) everyone expects. Echoing concerns first voiced by Morgan Stanley's Mike Wilson, Jensen said that "earnings expectations particularly in the U.S. are too high, and generally the Fed and other policy makers are still expecting stronger growth than we see."

As a result of what may soon be an earnings recession, Jensen said that he expects to see lower interests rates, particularly on the short-end of the Treasury curve, or in other words, he expects the Fed to make monetary easing great again; he also warned that regions that have priced in high growth expectations will be hurt the most, and no region has priced in more "growth" than the US, with the decoupling between US stocks and the rest of the world now absolutely historic.

And while Bridgewater is clearly bearish on developed markets such as the US, he said that some emerging markets that have already suffered from the U.S.’s tighter monetary policy will benefit as policy makers resume easing, he said.
Curiously, Jensen does not thing the next big market swoon will emerge in the US; instead he said European markets will be the first test as the region is "starting from a worse level in terms of the economy, lower inflation - close to deflation in many places - and already have negative interest rates" adding that "their movement will be kind of a leading indicator because they’re going to struggle more with easing” than the U.S. or China, which have “more tools available to them."
One of the reasons why Bridgwater did so well in 2018, when its Pure Alpha fund returned 12%, is because the fund apparently turned bearish just ahead of the December swoon (and about a year after Dalio said that "If you're holding cash, you're going to feel pretty stupid"). Last December, Jensen said growth in 2019 would be near recession levels at about 1 percent in the U.S., and slightly lower for the rest of the developed world; ironically, and in a stark U-turn to what Dalio said one year ago today, Jensen said "cash continues as a viable alternative to U.S. stocks and bonds."
As we reported yesterday, on Tuesday Ray Dalio criticized monetary policy makers for an “inappropriate desire” to tighten monetary policy faster than the capital markets could handle, but expressed hope that they were now looking to shift more slowly. And while it remains to be seen whether the Fed's rate hiking process is now over, one look at the risk-parity funds' exposure to stocks...

A new report strategically timed for release with the start of the World Economic Forum boondoggle at Davos, shows that the world's 26 richest billionaires now own as many assets as the 3.8 billion people who make up the poorest half of the world's population.
The report titled "Public Good or Private Wealth," found that top world's 26 richest billionaires now hold as much wealth as the bottom half of the world's population, some 3.8 billion people. That number was 43 in 2017 and 61 in 2016. According to the Guardian, the report also found that in the 10 years since the financial crisis, the number of billionaires has almost doubled. It also found that between 2017 and 2018, a new billionaire was created every two days.
For development charity Oxfam, that was enough to prompt calls for a global 1% wealth tax. The charity claims that the widening gap of wealth hinders the fight against poverty and called for a 1% wealth tax that it estimated could raise $418 billion a year. The charity believes this money should be re-purposed to educate every child not in school, as well as provide healthcare that would reportedly prevent 3.3 million deaths, according to the Guardian.

The charity also calculated that the total wealth of more than 2,200 billionaires worldwide increased by $900 billion in 2018, which amounts to $2.5 billion per day. This increase of 12% contrasts with a fall in the wealth of the poorest half of the world's population by 11%.
To be sure, while some billionaires engage in philanthropy and charity work – including Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, who gives away money in the hope of eradicating poverty – others seem to assume little responsibility for the world's increasingly alarming future. The Oxfam report picks on Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the world's richest man with an estimated fortune of $112 billion, who once said that he sees no better way to dispose of his tremendous wealth than to fund space travel.
While his admission might have excited space enthusiasts, it also sparked outrage, strengthening the case for more taxes for the rich. According to Oxfam, just 1% of Bezos' fortune is equivalent to the whole health budget for Ethiopia, a country of 105 million people.
Oxfam also said the impression that the wealthiest one percent don't give back enough to the community is justified, as they are indeed paying less and less: "In rich countries, the average top rate of personal income tax fell from 62% in 1970 to 38% in 2013," the report says, while in the developing countries it stands at 28% on average.
Director of campaigns and policy for Oxfam, Matthew Spencer, stated:
“The massive fall in the number of people living in extreme poverty is one of the greatest achievements of the past quarter of a century but rising inequality is jeopardising further progress. The way our economies are organised means wealth is increasingly and unfairly concentrated among a privileged few while millions of people are barely subsisting. Women are dying for lack of decent maternity care and children are being denied an education that could be their route out of poverty. No one should be condemned to an earlier grave or a life of illiteracy simply because they were born poor."
He continued:
"It doesn’t have to be this way – there is enough wealth in the world to provide everyone with a fair chance in life. Governments should act to ensure that taxes raised from wealth and businesses paying their fair share are used to fund free, good-quality public services that can save and transform people’s lives."
Oxfam is also calling for governments to tackle more universal public services and to force taxation on corporations who are under-taxed or avoiding taxes outright. The idea of a global wealth tax has been advocated for by French economist Thomas Piketty, who believes it can help stop the widening inequality gap worldwide.

Meanwhile, with the world's attention focused on Davos for the next few days where the world's richest are headed in their private jets to party in sheer opulence while lamenting the evils of global wealth inequality, we are confident that many of them will voluntarily offer a portion of their net worth to the world's poortest in line with Oxfam's recommendations, and to confirm that their money is where their noble mouth is, lest they be accused of another year of abject hypocrisy.
