This is a well written piece. It seems like a reasonable way of looking at left and right. I can tell it is written by someone leaning right, however, because of the content. Also the way things are worded, especially when describing the left. But like you said, there's much more to it. I promise to reflect on the subject and maybe we can have another talk about it in the future.

I am a very very big TED nerd. I posted this on the rabbit hole and another thread like this one back in the day. I like the fact that Alex and Winston, known conservatives, would come to a thread hangout run by a probable liberal. That is what I would do in the rabbit hole, the lone liberal! It was fun! This is a chance for some real dialog, and some really good music!

In full disclosure Jen ejected me from the Rat Hole so I'm no holdover. Additionally there's no love lost between Alex and me but I commend his conservative views never the less. I comment here and there so I don't really consider myself a part of any club. I'm certainly conservative and enjoy debating the surrounding issues whether in this thread or any other thread. I'll try to take a look at the posted video when I can.

Winston, I know that you are a NP, as someone who works in Allied Health here in the States, I know that you have to have a certain "social intelligence" to effectively do your job. You have a lot to contribute, and I don't Cruiser is the banning kind unless the offender is an obvious troll. Alex C is steadfast in his beliefs, and I have spent two years trying to understand people like him. Both sides need to talk, we are in a cold civil war here in the states.

I'm able to effectively integrate my Christian beliefs with my political views. For instance I support efforts to stop illegal immigration however I have a great deal of compassion for those mother's who manage to cross the border and have their babies in the US. I do not engage these "illegals" with my political views but rather care for them as if they were US citizens. I don't believe these babies should have birthright citizenship but they do deserve and they do get the best medical care in the world.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (God-given rights - not men given rights) drive my conservative views. I think nearly all of us believe in the pursuit of happiness. Without trying to get into a debate on abortion all of us do not believe in life. All of us do not believe in liberty but rather some are more interested in equality. Equality is not an unalienable right and was never intended to be. However the pursuit of equality mandates limitation on freedom and furthermore demands the development of a bureaucracy to manage attempts to achieve equality.

I listened to this video. Everything said about what most Americans desire is true. The biggest difference between liberals and conservatives is that liberals want you to trust big government to satisfy those desires and conservatives want government to leave us alone and let us satisfy our own desires. There's much more to this but for now simply stated.

A few minutes later the owner walked out of the kitchen. He was carrying a coffee pot in one hand, and a record album in the other. “Anybody need a refill?” A gentleman with a window seat gave a quick hand signal, and the owner recognized him from previous visits. “Nice to see you again, JMN!” He refilled the coffee cup that the waitress had left. “I like your choice of music. It's from this Led Zeppelin 4 album.” He showed it to JMN, and noticed that he studied it carefully.

I was lucky enough to catch a Led Zeppelin concert in June of 1972. They were doing a U.S. tour after releasing “Led Zeppelin 4”. They were the only band that played that night, and it went on for two and half hours. A nice variety of up-tempo rock and acoustical. “Whole Lotta Love” was definitely played. That was their biggest hit up to that point, and was a crowd favorite. But unknown to us, we were also hearing songs from this album that would become all-time classics.

I suspect “Black Dog” was released as a single. At least, it got the most air time on radio back then. But “Stairway To Heaven” became my favorite all-time song a few years later, and probably stayed that way for a couple decades.
