Programmed an EA for this strategy.

EA rules:
Gets high/low from 2200-0200 GMT period
Uses 1:1 risk:reward
Opens trade after first close above buy/below sell line - no limit on when this is (could happen at 2145)
Trades 0.01 lots on a $1000 demo account
Only 1 active trade at a time
Ran from 1/1/17, using 1 min OHLC option

Using above rules:
https://i.imgur.com/G3WYVTi.png

Only trading if high-low range is between 15-45 pips:
https://i.imgur.com/nowoLLh.png

Only trading if high-low range is between 15-45 pips, and using 2:1 ratio (200% tp, 100% sl):
https://i.imgur.com/B8BDjVW.png

Edit:
Not entirely accurate yet on second reflection; the strategy tester does not correctly generate TimeGMT() function, so some times will be off. Fixing now, and adding a few input options into the EA.
Will code in MT5 for free.. EAs only, can't be f*cked with Indicators

Result: First hit target 1 for a profit, second closed out at breakeven which was a shame, Not sure its worth the hassle to open the second and have to move SL to BE

oh..the blue dashed lines with and arrow at start and triangle at end is trade plotter indicator showing real trades so really no need to post the trade as I open. I was asleep for the first one anyway lol

Hey... my first Mql4 code here, maybe we have a lot of bugs on this simple EA code, for sure.
Btw, on testing is giving me some good results with some tweaking, lets see...

Test with original settings/rules (01/01/2017)-(10-10-2018):

Hello Inbox,

Looking at your graphs (for original settings), you may have made the same mistake as me... wasn't aware MT5 was set at GMT +2/+3 by default, and using TimeGMT() doesn't work in the strategy testers, so I was operating from a completely different window.

With a 1:1 ratio now, using the correct timeframe from 1/1/17, with the only addition to standard rules being trading only 15-45 pip windows, using 0.01 lots constantly on a $1000 starting BR, here is my current graph:

Hello Penguinthief,
i'm using "TimeCurrent()" to get the server time, letting the user decide the best Start Time and End Time of the box.
For example: My broker is GMT+2 and i live on a GMT time zone. If i need a Start Time at 02h00, i must set the EA Start Time to 00h00.
Same thing applies to the End Time.

Known Issue: EA only let me set a Start Time after 00h00. The Start and End Time, must be on the same day.

Rather than setting the start time, I'm setting just the end time and the amount of candles to search backwards.. that way it doesn't matter if you cross a midnight.

Mine adjusts for GMT, then looks for the first candle where the hour segment of an MqlDateTime structure reaches 2. At that point, it then scans the previous 16 candles to give it the 4hr window (16 x 15m = 4h) to get highs and lows and set my buy/sell limits. That way I don't care that the start time, 2200, is on a different day.

I'd share code but I'm in MQL5 and don't know what is different

Thats a nice point of view, using only the End Time! Just curious to test it and see the differences.

I cant see a way to set it so that it only opens a trade on the first candle to close outside the box. It opens immediately the candle hits the order and before it has even ended.

Sell opened here on second candle even though it hasn't closed outside bottom of box.

Ideally would be good for an EA that could set so it opens a trade:
1. on the first candle to close outside box
1. and that close is within x% of the height of the box.

Good evening Emerald2112,

I've implemented the x% rule into my EA, and realistically it didn't gain us much in terms of profitability. I think that whilst a close that is a large % outside of the box limits our profitability due to having a smaller pip value to climb, the larger numbers also show strength and maybe an ability to more frequently hit our TP, so it kind of counteracts eachother.

Have included a screenshot for 0-20% values (far right column, 'maxPercentBreak'). You'll be able to see that, except the 4% value (which seems nothing more than force-fitting), the profit factor stays pretty much the same all the way through.
