Up Thrust
Market makers are quite capable of generating an Up Thrust, which is a money making maneuver. The dynamics of an Up Thrust are interesting and quite brutal- the rapid up-move brings in buyers and catches stops. The traders who are already shorting (selling) the market, become alarmed and cover their positions. It is a common strategy to suddenly mark-up prices to catch the unwary. THE EVOLUTION OF GAVIN HOLMES
I recently attended a TradeGuider webinar and Gavin Holmes said something that showed his growth, or evolution, as a trader. He then reverted back to the Gavin of old, but I want to give him some props for the possible growth.
Gavin was asked, " What do you think x Market will do?".
Gavin replied, " I don't think. I don't get paid to think. I get paid to trade.".
I don't think Gold will do this. But if it does follow this path (and I could trade spot Gold), I would take the trade.......
Sharp Shooter:
(1) Identify the Ultra High Volume interval. This is the start of the distribution phase.
(2) Place a Trigger Line (Number) at the low of the Yao Ming bar.
(3) Wait for price to change behavior and trade below the Trigger Line.
(4) As price moves upwards from below the line, look for a SOW. ( Up Thrust, No Demand, Trap Up Move, 2 Bar Reversal, Supply Coming In, Squat, etc.)
(5) If price is below the Balance Point Line (BPL) and both Chart Modes I & II are red, get Short.
Keep evolving Gavin.
Worry less about making fantastical calls, and trade what you see.

I'm not sure why, but before I never really payed attention to news and when it will be released. These days I just trade around heavy news events, makes life easier with what and when to trade and not having to be glued to the charts.
The TP zone from the previous post is different, in the previous post the zone didn't snap correctly. Second taking a look at Daily chart, today is pushing up and through the up thrust from the 8th. Looks fairly bullish to me, so I took a partial profit and letting the trade run. Happy weekend.

In the spirit of learning and community discussion, my take is a little different.
I would not have gotten in on the interval you did. The bar you labeled as a "Test in a Rising Market" is actually "No Demand". "No Demand" which fails to confirm, but "No Demand" nonetheless. I would agree that the interval is a great place to see a "Test"-immediately following a 2 Bar Reversal.
LET ME SAY THIS IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS: THE TRADEGUIDER SOFTWARE SUCKS. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY/LEASE IT.
I understand that some things will be missed, but TG missed the obvious Shake Out (at least it's obvious to anybody that has read or participated in this thread or Master the Markets), and it missed the 2 Bar Reversal. It did spot the No Demand. You do not need TG to learn to read the charts. Read and ask questions here, and put the money into a live account.
But I digress. Here's a chart of how I saw it.
"No Demand" it typically an UP bar with a narrow range on volume less than the previous 2 bars. The bar I marked as a "Test" is also an UP bar, however, note that it makes a lower low than the previous bar before closing in its upper range on volume less than the previous 2 bars.

Unfortunately, I can not program in Sierra Charts programming language, so I was forced to get Trade Guider. Plus, they offered me a substantial discount. I don't know if it was because they knew who I was, or if it was because they knew I posted on Malcolm's thread, but it was very big. BUT TG IS NOT WORTH IT AT ANY PRICE.
Anybody that participates in this thread soon understands that "No Demand" is a narrow range UP bar on volume less than the previous 2 bars. The more advanced also know that sometimes the volume will be low, but not necessarily less than the previous 2. But it will be on volume less then the prior bar and lower than average.
Take a look at the chart.
Anyone that sees this bar as "No Demand" is in complete error. As is the TG software.
We can call this bar by a few names:
(1) Buying Climax
(2) Supply Coming In
(3) Selling Pressure
(4) Supply Swamping Demand
(5) Climatic Action
(6) SOW
