Computer Question

I am sorry if this is the wrong forum. I was wondering what specs you would recommend for having multiple instances of mt4 uo as well multiple windows. I am currently using a computer with an i3 2.4ghz 4gb. It is an acer and I am not at all happy with the speed or the performance in general. Any comments on a low to mid priced option that has good performance? Thanks.

It is not possible to give a clear answer for such a general request. The MT4 load depends much more on the used indicators/EAs than the pure number of open instances.

Keep in mind, that MT4 is 32-bit, so there are limitations on the allocated RAM.

I am looking for something general. Say 6 instances with indicators ea on the high usage end. Additionally looking for a recommendation for a computer with better performance in general and if there is a specific question tht would help please let me know. Thanks

Get a 6 or 8 core proc (ryzen) and assign each mt4 instance to a separate processor. Ram would only be high if your indis put alot of gfx on display (lines/rectangles/labels etc), otherwise they just need cpu. I am hitting tops 400-500 mb's on 17-50 charts but my indis are full of lines/boxes. Max I could go was 900 but that was due to a leak in one indi. So with 8gb ram you should be fine for 6 instances.

Rather than spending your money on a computer, maybe look into using a VPS.

There are some great options for around $/€20-30 per month and you can use any computer to access it. You'll also be saving on your power bill.

Mine is a 4-core Intel Xeon with 8GB RAM and it works pretty well.

Check out Time4VPS, Contabo, OVH or others you may find.

You can use shortcuts in this form: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "Oanda" /affinity 2 "H:\Oanda\terminal.exe" /portable

Affinity takes the processor hex number, you should convert processors like this (on 12 processor for example): 00000001 = 1st proc or /affinity 1, 00000010 = 2nd proc or /affinity 2, ......, 10000000 = 8th proc or affinity /80 etc.

VPS's are good, but to find one that can run more than 2 terminals with average/heavy cpu usage is going to be costly and at the end 1 year of good performance vps would cost as much as a new MB, CPU & RAM + power. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sNvZzY - rest you can transfer from current pc (disks/monitor etc). While the new computers are awesome, first try this, because I doubt you need very much history to make your trades. Go to TOOLS / OPTIONS / CHARTS / and change "Max bars in history" and "Max bars in chart". I only use 600 and 600 and my meta trader flies. I don't even need that many, so you can probably go even lower too. However, if it is a video card issue to allow for multiple monitors, then you either need to buy cards, or get a new computer that allows you to add them.

Also, I don't understand why you need multiple instances of mt4 on the same computer? You might also consider getting another computer just to load them onto it, and then use a trade copier. Your templates would not have to run, so at low history and chart bars, you should have very little resource drain. I don't know your business plan though, so just something to consider. Good Luck.
