Oh yeah, I'm using FXDD and the EA opened .46 lots...Didn't know that FXDD 'allowed' that. I trade through them live as well....

Hi GirlFlier,

I've been reading your thread for a few days now and I am really impressed with the way this ea works. As a matter of fact just put it on one of my live accounts with FXDD about 2 hours ago after reading about it and looking at the codeing. I put it on GBP/USD pair just 1 for now on a 1000.00 mini account. While I familiarize my self with it. I did my demo just to get the feel but in my opinion there is nothing like taking it live to really test drive it. But I only do this with the ones that seem to be very promising as yours seems to be. Thanks for the hard work you've put into this and I look forward to following this. I will give an update friday evening on the account after the markets close. AHHH!! one big question how does it fair through a big news releases (NFP) precisely??? Thanks once again. Valerie....

Girl Flyer,

Testing for today resulted in -113 pips on five pairs; the four majors and the EUR/JPY.

Here are some of my observations:

1) Took two trades on USD/JPY, 45 minutes and 90 minutes after the cross, both entered on wrong side.

2) No USD/CHF trade taken on US open missing approximately 45 pips.

3) No GBP/USD trade taken on US open missing approximately 30 pips

4) No re-entry on GBP after above, missed 30 pips

5) No trade on EUR/USD missing 35 pips. Re-entered 90 minutes later after reversal missing 15 pips.

6) EUR/JPY-entered trade 6 hrs after crossover at the high of this trend and then entered on the wrong side with SL of 45 pips.

7) EUR/JPY-sold 45 minutes after cross but didn't exit at crossover-TS worked for 10 PIPS.

8) EUR/JPY- bought 2.5 hrs after crossover in wrong direction; then failed to exit/enter on next crossover.


I know that it will take awhile to tweak things and you have already posted some adjustments prior to this post.

One thing you might want to consider is hedging the trades with pending orders until trend direction is verified and then one cancels other. Just a thought. I will continue to test with the new changes.

Still not one trade for me after about 60 hours of runtime. But I notice others saying they are going fine - take Post #85 for example. He may not be getting what he wants, but he is getting some.

HeHe.

Any clues anyone. The journal tells me it's loaded, the experts has its "data" and I have the smiley face top right hand corner. (I'm on GBPUSD M1 with default settings)

Hi Grahame,
I've got the latest flier from post #75 on the same pair but I have it on the 30 minute chart. My settings are as follows :lot%=1.0, minval=500, stoplossval=60, time period= 30, pointadjust= -0.02, and trailingstoplevel=65. You can also put it on the 15 min chart as well but I'm not sure as with the other timeframes. I hope this is of some help. Valerie...

Grahame,

The only thing I can think of now for you is that your MinVal setting is higher than your account value. Check to make sure MinVal is set properly. If you're using a small account and have not changed that, that could explain things.

Hi, I trade some news trading EA (my own) using FXDD and I check that FXDD allow "micro lots" (.01) only in demo account. In live account it is not possible. Lot size should be rounded to one decimal place.

However it is possible using Interbankfx (which is my second MT4 acccount) - they have "micro lots" in mini account, but it is still only one decimal place, but in mini thats means 0.1 mini lots or 0.01 full lot.

However, Valerie, my PointAdjust value is 0.0001. Will change to -0.02 as you suggest. Rather a difference, there, eh?

Some explanations...

Actually the EA is behaving exactly how it is programmed. Unfortunately, some of the cases are a result of some technical problems which I'm still trying to resolve, and others, its simply the market. I had the same conditions occur as you did.

1st - Let me try to explain how the EA makes its decisions, and then we can try to see what we can do to improve that.

Entry Points - the 5 & 8 WMA's must cross COMPLETELY through BOTH 18 & 28 EMA'S. No partials or only through 1 or the other... AND they must make the complete crossover within 2.5 hours. (This is a factor I'm thinking though is most crucial... it was designed to filter things out in case of slow ranging market so it wouldn't get whipsawed around...)

Note: Some of the cross overs in the market I'm seeing are taking much longer than 2.5 hours which is why it is missing trades occasionally. Will work on how to resolve this.

Exit points...

It will exit by 1 or 2 methods....

#1 - By Stop/Loss... Can be either the Stop Loss at a price lower than the opening price or by the adjusted trailing/stop. This is what happened with the Eur/Jpy for 10 pips. The T/S took over on the exit.

#2 - The primary method of exit is: The 5 WMA (and only the 5WMA) must cross back over the 28 EMA. It also must be in a winning position (ie... it will not exit at a loss... that's left up to the Stop/Loss).

So you can see, the exit rule is pretty simple. It's the entry which is being complicated.

Now for my observations and thoughts....

Based on the preliminary results that I've seen running live this week...

Best performance for each pair by win/loss ratios are:
(Your performance may vary according to the settings you are using)

#1 - AUD/USD - 2 Wins/0 losses
#2 - USD/CHF - 1 Win/ 0 Loss
#3 - EUR/JPY - 2 Wins/1 Loss
- USD/JPY - 2 Wins/1 Loss
#4 - GBP/USD - 3 Wins/2 Losses
#5 - EUR/USD - 1 Win/1 Loss
#6 - USD/CAD - 0 Wins/1 Loss

Now for performance by Total Pips:

USD/CHF, +58 Pips (+58 Win, 0 Loss)
GBP/USD, +29 Pips (+129 WIN, - 100 LOSS)
AUD/USD, +24 Pips (+24 Win, 0 Loss)
USD/JPY, + 7 Pips (+45 Win, - 38 Loss)
EUR/USD, +5 Pips (+50 Win, -45 Loss)
EUR/JPY, -32 Pips (+13 Win, -45 Loss)
USD/CAD, - 35 Pips (0 Win, -35 Loss)

Net Gain/Loss = + 56 Pips.

After 3 days, up 56 pips... Even with the losses and the missed trades... Not too bad. Only time will tell if this holds up.

Finally, working on some ideas to help improve the entries, and even exits..., but these are only preliminary right now.

Exit strategy... May look at trying to exit sooner after a sharp increase in value to preserve gains rather than letting some of those gains erode before getting out... However, this may limit the potential to make larger trades... (hmm.... could be a 50-50 idea... will have to run simulations to find out)

Entries - Try to improve the entry points by evaluating the current situation better and adjust filter factors... This is of course the hardest part. 1Trader2, will consider the hedging idea, but will have to see if it will work in principle.


Ok... That's all for now. Hope this article explains the process the EA uses to make its decisions and clarifies the performance. While the EA will miss trades (we all do), we cannot expect perfect performance. I get the feeling that many people think EA's are the miracle that will bring the money in without work, make us rich, and never make mistakes... It's an illusion that we all may fall under at times. But we have to remember, that EA's are only as good as the people behind them.

I agree ; if that were the case we would all be millionaires. An Ea is exactly what you said you have to keep a close eye on them and be able to extinguish any fires they may cause....Valerie....

A couple of things I've noticed in going over the threads...


For those of you using older versions, if you update to a newer version... it will take over the trades from the previous version... no need to leave the old one running if you don't want.

Second, Lot sizes...

The EA does not round the lot sizes. The % could create lot sizes with decimal places beyond .01, such as .015684, etc. So far, in the demo accounts, the Server has been rounding those orders automatically and I have not experienced any problems. At least with IBFX.

However, if anybody is getting an error #131 with trades... this may be a problem and I will have to resolve it. May even have to throw in a parameter in the settings to allow setting the minimum precision for lot size.

I programmed this EA after doing the trades manually in both live and demo account with fair success. But I had never backtested it because of a lack of ability to do so. Once I found MT4 had the ability to do backtesting, I was off and running to prove my strategy worked out well. Until we get the kinks worked out of the EA, as you mentioned in a later post, a little babysitting and I think we have a good opportunity here. I appreciate the confidence.

Thanks Andrew. I recall somewhere that I saw FXDD allows for Micro's in demo trading. Flyer opened a long position last night in the E$ and a short position in the cable this morning. It'll be interesting to see how the EA reacts with the NFP on Friday. Markets should be flat today.

You can turn it off during the non market hours... but should turn it back on when the market opens Sunday night. It will pick up where it left off.

BTW, on the news...

If the EA is not already in a position and the news in this case NFP causes a trend change, it will get in. Otherwise it will ride it out. From there you get the idea.

Just checking in with people...

My test closed out 3 positions Thursday, all for gains even if they were small ones.

GBP/USD - Meager +3 pips - It then immediately sold before the drop today. Sitting on a +58 pip gain right now.

AUD/USD - +11 Pips

USD/JPY - +8 Pips
