Yes, it appeared to be quite paradoxical for the outsiders, but bear in mind that the FDAX is a thinly liquid instrument and the biggest market maker for FDAX accounts for more than 60% of the liquidity (limit orders on the book), this is a market that is extremely prone for some serious manipulation. I don't want to accuse the collusion of the insiders between the fund managers and the market maker. But what usually happens is that when the fund manager wants to execute a sizable order, it does not go into the market by itself self. Instead, it commissioned those orders to the market maker. With 60% of liquidity controlled in their hands, the market maker can do something which appeared to us to be completely impossible.
