I love the way Clenow describes in detail each year's results. It really puts into perspective the need to be patient if you want to enjoy those rare wicked long term equity curves that reach for the sky. As Clenow describes.....it is not all beer and skittles to be a trend follower.....there are many ups and downs along the way to enjoy equity curves of the likes of this :-)

November 2017 - Trend Following Performance - No Surf No Fun

C'mon surf.....where the hell are ya!!!!!! Not much to report on this month.....again. All we got was sunburn and stingers.

The Trend Following (TF Index) which reports on the performance of 54 established trend following programs that have been in operation since at least 1 Jan 2000 to the current day languished around breakeven with a small 0.89% decline for November. This brings the 2017 calendar YTD result to a pitiful -4.4%. I wish there was more joy to spread around....but it is clear we are going to finish the 2017 calendar year in the red. This has been a common occurrence for medium to long term trend following FM's post 2009 where mean reversion has been the theme of the markets combined with significantly decreased volatility.



The question we ask ourselves is .....how long is this going to last. Well we really don't know....so what is critically important at this time if we want to be in a position to fight another day if trends return is to protect our capital at all costs. Keep the powder dry lads.

C'mon lads....another few months of this and we should be seeing dry land....this is no time for a mutiny.



So despite the gloom who were the top Monthly Performers for November?

Below are the top 10 prioritized by November's result. Once again like last month....Dunn Capital rose to the occasion offering a modest 3.38% return for the month with it's World Monetary and Agricultural Fund with it's D'Best Futures Fund coming in second place with 2.24%.
