I think, BB describes the market range so nicely! In addition, the upper and lower levels of BB respect by the market chart during a valid rangy market.

Today I was thinking how to show you the range formation, without sharing too much info and suddenly I saw something that did amaze me.

Unfortunately, it is NOT an EARLY WARNING, but it is a warning that will likely the choppy times will end soon...

The price moves in a channel, for those of you who did not noticed it, yet. The channel width is respected for each time frame individually. How do they do that? It is still a big wonder to me... One day I will crack this down. Anyways.

So, a choppy time WIDENS the channel, without the price going anywhere or do anything important.

It forms a belly. Beer belly, preggo belly, milf belly. Like a ball, at both sides. It is like the chart just swallow a marble ball. Or a prey in the snake's belly...

I think this info is pretty much uber helpful. But if you cant use it, I cant help you.

Channel formation is your worry. Do something yourself. Just play around, you will quickly catch it.

Is this the one you were going to share? I was hoping to see candles per your post earlier

No, this is something else. I am such a nice guy. Shared it 2 mins after I digested it.

I will show you the last 5 h1 candles breakout signal, as promissed. I have played around with it and some stuffs just pop out... Around the holidays when I get bored I will make images for you guys.

I did not realize that the belly thing I have shown you, is the signal for the approaching range end... Now there should be one more for the range exit direction. But this usually is the last trend direction... but not always.

Problem: Is there an indicator or a method I can use to identify/rank which one ranges most?

1. Using multiple MAs on a pair, check current value against previous cross value, if the result (r) is low, then price is in range.
2. Then comparing that result (r) against other pairs.
3. The pair with the lowest result (r) is the most range.

PSA indicator for the most ranging / trending pairs.
Get it, study it, use it.

Hi!

The best I have for detecting sideways markets (ranges) against trending markets is either based
- on standard deviation (on MT4, open a subwindow of Standard deviation (8, Exponential, Close), and on this standard deviation, you add a moving average 10, Exponential, on "first indicator's data")
- or on ATR or to be more specific, the Keltner Channel. There is a so-called RK-squize indicator on the web you can find and it is quite easy to configure. First MA should be 3, EMA, Close and 2nd should be 8, EMA, Close, for ATR, choose period 50 and multiplier 0.4. This should work with almost all assets and timeframes but it depends on your strategy. For Day Trading, a M30, max H1 TF should be OK! With low TFs, you risk to get out of ranges quite quickly.

What else is available for analysis except for bid/ask and tick arrival time? Pls help, I'm stuck.
