News Trading – Why You Won’t Make Money Trading News

Another silly article from tradeciety. Like it or not, news is what drives prices and news can hit you any time of the day, there is no way one can trade purely technicals.

i read the headline only and was offended by it , from the title it is rubbish , putting doubt into a traders mind when he is doing a trade is a awe full self belief in the trade is important , and guest must be the writer

i have been trading for years trading is price action , fundamentals , technical , news or any thing else we can think of in trading you stop trading when you listen to idiots

So many times I have seen price consolidate before major news releases, followed by trend continuation after the release. So, if you know what you are doing, it is not gambling. I do agree that placing trades just before, during, or immediately after a news release is probably not a good idea.

I don't care reading articles.
If the writer knew anything.... he wouldn't spend time complaining....

Here's 15 second course:
There are news and leaked news.
You trade the users of the news (everybody or just the retail naive crowd )....

Knowing if the " news" was leaked im advance is the difference.
Then it's waiting.
Then it's direction.
That's it.

I am trading pure technicals, news don't drive anything, they only follow the chart as it is and speed things up if needed.

Guys, do you ever look at the OCHL prices prior to the news releases? m15/m30/h1, especially h1, frequently shows the news direction, sometimes, 2-3 hrs before the release... OCHL prices look important to me.

What to expect from news... volatility... Not a direction.
If it were as simple as buying good news and selling bad.. we would all be rich!
All you should expect is some bigger candles.
All news does is add risk to your trades.
The money isn't made off the big news spike.. its what happens after and how you play it.
Too many new traders think its about catching the big candle on news release..

Trading the news is a fundamental necessity when trading the FX market. Let me put it another way, trading the news means that you will be flat AUD just before the AUD interest rate announcement comes out. If you are not flat AUD before the interest rate announcement, you will get trounced by the market. Yes, you absolutely must pay attention to the fundamentals.

Well what can I say? My last 20 fundamental trading news, I made money on 18, people can't never say that you can't do this or that, you don't know everybody in this word. If I'm profitable trading news, I bet other people is capable as well, but it's just not for everyone.

Don't trade the news, trade the price action that follows

I only trade the first 5 hours of Asian session and never enter a trade 20 minutes up until a news event starts and 20 minutes after it starts. So not within 20 min. in and out of a news event. In my personal experience this has helped me avoid whipsaws and has saved my ass from so many bad beats in the market.

Kathy Lien and Boris Schlossberg, specifically, Kathy, has said she -they - make much of their profit from trading news and she explains how. She has an ultra macro mindset which informs all she does in the markets. They write up scenarios of the kind we all know - if this then that - and above all she, for it is particularly Kathy who initially enters the market at news - acts nimbly. Boris follows up with levels predetermined before the news. They are both trading but both are using what they do best.

It is not an investment mindset and if you have that kind of mind like I do, you have to and can profitably adjust to trade the news.

altough its true what the articles says about that trade the news is people expectations, you can actually do well trading the big news if surf the ride with a ''open mind attitude'' and since the mkt gets loose, there is more mkt inefficiencies to get

The author has a few good points about trading the news. Moreover Algo. driven trading these days causes a lot
of uncertainty and volatility. Inevitably, such quick get rich schemes misfire and then some.

Exactly. And you do the information is there but not as sentiment on a calender. That sentiment is for chumps.

My entire trading strategy is based upon taking a position after a news event that moves price in a significant manner typically an HOUR after that news is released. Ayau has it right, I put in a position WELL AFTER a news release and catch the wave (for lack of a better term). If its is strong I make good money, if its weak and turns on me I have the 20sma to tell me its not working and to get out. To all respondents to this article, the goal of a writer is to first attract your attention and this write-up has achieved that. Whatever your position, you have read the article and seen his link to his blog site. But we should remember that the debate about which is more important between technical and fundamental analysis in trading is not likely to be won soon. For me I believe to be successful, we need both and, in addition, sentiments. For instance I believe news and sentiments could affect chat patterns, which eventually determine the direction prices go.

Theres a way to trade hi news. News is gauanteed very safe 2:1 in minites usuallly seconds its the best. IF its there. Not always the case obviously.

A typical closed-minded approach: "If I can't, you certainly can't either." Steer clear!

The scrapping of plans for a so-called Bitcoin hard fork might have caused many eastern European traders to say. ( For forks sake ? Whats the point of going long ? )

But i think not trading news is for people that trade on daily or weekly time frame . News do affects those on smaller time frame
