Realistically how much can I make from forex as a student?

I know this is asked constantly literally constantly, but how much could I make of forex as a high school student with a starting capital of about £1000 ($1315). I understand the odds are against me and I'm much more likely lose the money but if not how much could i potentially make? thanks.

Usually people talk about 3-5% per month on average.
If you're a good trader that is possible.
Some traders can even get 10% per month on average or even more.

In the end it's all dependent on the trader, their strategy, their money management and what they're willing to risk but 3-5% per month on average is something good to aim for.
If you're only starting and you think you can just jump in and make money without any knowledge or work then I'm sad to tell you but you'll probably not make anything at all. In fact most traders lose money in their first year of trading and 90% of traders never even make it.

Stay with the demo until it can show a consistent profit for several months in a row ...

Um, yeah, it's a noob question because he's a new trader. If it's beneath you why did you bother replying?

oliverfxldn, as long as you can trade reliably well (or starting from the future date that you can), you might have trouble making a living from 1,000 pounds, but you could nicely supplement an income or college expenses. If you trade well and can let the account grow you might be able to make a middle class living from 10,000 pounds (again, if you trade well).

Your return increases as your skill increases, so it makes no sense to give you an actual amount you could make. In your first profitable year maybe you could make 5%, but in your 10th profitable year maybe you could make 500%, assuming you could stomach the risk which goes along with that.

If you are a good Forex trader then you can make 3-5% in average! Expecting too much is a common problem here! Forex is a name of online business, gambling is not possible here! Since you are a novice trader so, now you should concentrate on your learning process.

if you trade high risk and have a solid plan, with a good dose of luck you can make a lot of money.

best thing is to backtest and find out yourself.

That all depends on your knowledge and experience and skills, if you have plenty of it, you could earn plenty and if not, you would rather lose it all in it, hence I would advice you to be careful.

If you're following a decent system and spend an hour or two a day placing pending orders, you could expect 10 to 20 percent per month. Of course it comes down to the system you're following and whether or not you've developed trading maturity to deal with stress or excitement.

Also I would say don't over-trade. You're likely to have more consistency and get your monthly 5%, etc. For example, I could just trade EURUSD and be fine longterm with one trade a day but, it's like an addiction to want to trade more and that introduces additional risk.

I didn't trade much in September but here's mine to backup my response.

You could make a small fortune ,,,,,,,,,usually only if you start with a large fortune tho ,,, lets be real here ,,,,,,,,high school,,,,,,,due diligence and very good money management maybe a few bucks for the gas tank to go on a date on the weekend ,,,,,,,reality,,,,, if you can keep from losing what that date will cost each week you will be doing well,,,,,,,start with one pair and learn the little details little nuances ,,each pair just a little different even tho they do the same things ,,,,,,,,,learn support resistance,,,,,,accumulation and distribution 1st and you will be ahead of most ,,,,there is no holy grail , no magic formula ,,,,,,,, there is only levels and a reason to buy or sell,,,,,,,,different levels for different trading approaches , start small and practice , practice , practice ,,,,,,,cheers and good luck

Like this guys who come with "decent system, an hour a day, easy 500% a year". So many millionaires...

It all depends on your trading skill, even a million pounds could still be lost without proper trading skill, so enfaces shouldn't be focused in capital but in your skill to exoliot price movement with as little risk as possible.

If you don't quite have a decent system or a basic understanding of how things generally work, I would highly recommend watching every video here.

don't underestimate luck, don't underestimate big trends too.

I would say the important is to start small, always.
don't bet everything on ONE attempt.. that's crazy and the reason why people lose so much. don't bet everything on one instrument as well. hedge your damn bets.

You can't just say "just follow a decent system and all will be ok".
I'm happy for you if you made your 42% in 3 months. But how about your mean and max DD, exposure, PF, sharpe ratio, volatility, tail VaR etc?
20% a month means nothing.

So the only answer to the OP is [-£1000,+∞[

finish your degree, get a real job, earn some money then you actually have some to lose..

THEN come and lose it in the markets

I am sorry to bring the bad news , but 'realistically' you can and will lose 1315usd and thats it. Forex trading is very hard and competitiv and do not believe if someone tells otherwise. Also, highschool is definately not the period when you are likely to become profitable. Third point - getting profitable requires probably around 5-10 years of hard work, if you are dedicated ( that is very very general, but expecting fast results in a professional field is naive). And if it even matters after all the above - 1000gbp is a very small sum to be able to actually make anything significant.
Another thing - approaching the forex arena with mindset like "how much money can i make here" or "how rich can i get" can bring a lot of financial pain. I am telling you this based from real experience and not based on my or someone elses wishes or dreams.
Now to bring some good news at least - since you are very young and in high school, you are approaching trading at a proper age to make a start and have enough time to develop. It is definately harder for the older mindset to transform, and when you are young you are so flexible, fast and energetic, your mind is thirsty to explore and learn, hopefully. So if you relally get in love with this thing and want it with your heart, probably after some years you are going to thank yourself for the efforts and make some real money. But it could not happen, depends on a lot of things. Good luck.
