Hong Kong has just fallen 700 pips in an hour. I can see no news out there, so does anyone have any info for this heavy selling?

30th anniversary of the 1987 flash crash today. Maybe that has had some influence on the morning's pa. Just a guess.

September retail sales for the UK badly down, which isn't surprising. With inflation rising and more and more people feeling the squeeze, if the Bank of England raise interest rates as they are widely expected to do next month, I think all hell will let loose.

Raising interest rates is supposed to come at a time when there is genuine economic recovery throughout the population as a whole, not just with those with money to invest in the stock markets. The UK consumer is far more in debt today than it was in 2008 when the BOE started cutting rates, and a major recession, which has nothing to do with Brexit, has been long coming. Stock markets are still rising, but when they start coming down from the current stellar levels, the major western economies will be exposed for what they really are - a giant ponzi scheme built on printed money and debt.

All indices fell. Probably in reaction to Spain - Catalonia statements earlier.

Oh well it's a good excuse for a correction, not that it matters, it just attaches the sentiment to the chart (bear). As for markets around the world, imo during EU hours DAX & STOXX lead the rest, then DJ & NASDAQ take over (mostly DJ) then NK & HK, just a cycle - deviations are there but they correct over time - so a correction ignited by DAX during E hours will lead the rest.

true could be trigger .. normally would agree 100 pct.. us retailers don't know for sure..

trigger in this case .. is both greed and fear coming to a climax.. translates into buyers covering and sellers selling strong and smart in this case..
opinion of course..

Very stormy this morning, and my wife scolded me for not getting up during the night to move some rubbish bin that was blowing around outside. ' If you'd woken me up, I would have done ' I told her

H1 GJ chart here. 200ema holding it to the upside atm, and I think the direction of least resistance today is northbound. Yellow line is the 61.8% fib, and orange is the 76.4%. These in my view as it stands now should be challenged. There is also the potential for the price to move higher up towards yesterday's high at 14,943, and the H3 200sma, which has held the price for so long now, is above at 14,964. Support held firm yesterday on the H4 200ema @ 14,796 on my charts, so that has to break, and if it does, then I have lower support just above S1 @14,769.

That nice little kick up on GJ seemed like a pretty good place to cash in, and as it's Friday, quite a good note to end the week on, and I always like to finish early on a Friday...one of the perks of the job! It may go higher, nothing really stopping it actually apart from that H3 200sma I've been drawing attention to for a couple of weeks. If that can break though, then it's clear all the way up to R2, so if this rally still has enough buyers, I think this could easily be hit, though that'll be a big move for the day on sheer buyer momentum. I'm never too greedy, so when I see a good enough reason to cash in, I always do. Those of you who are still long, then I wish you luck, and hope it keeps rising for you.

Well well well, far from tightening, the ECB is going to keep the printing presses rolling by printing billions and billions of more euros, hardly surprising then that the Dax broke clean out of the putrefying range it has been in for weeks, and is now set for what looks to me like it'll be the mother of all bull runs up to Christmas. My prediction is that we will see 15,000 challenged within the next couple of months. Technically speaking, the only potential resistance levels that I can see above where we are as I type, which is 13,160, now that 13,134 has been broken, where I had a level of potentially very strong resistance, is firstly 13,200, where I have a topping moving average on the H6 chart, and above that, around the 230 level. Above these, and the Dax is in the clear.

School half term this week, so trading has been thin with a couple of trades on GJ, and I've also found the time to make a nuisance of myself on one or two of the discussion threads.

Oh, and for Christ's sake, let's have a bit of bloody sunshine over the UK, this week has been as dull and grey as a Labour party shadow cabinet meeting!
