If it doesn't it might be a painful learning curve for some.

Each trader must plot their own future in trading as best as they can.

Risk and Trade management in my view rank up near the top.

A trader who can employ very good risk and trade management can make an otherwise crappy trading method profitable.

A trader who has a very good trading system at their disposal but lacks risk control will not become consistently profitable over the longer term.

We all know this but how many of us apply it and apply it well?

Broker Risks
--> not really, simple buy bonds (or other structured products to go outside the broker when he got problems) and use margin from this for trading rest, problem solved

Platform technology risks
--> simple use more then 1 broker and more then 1 platform for each broker, problems solved

Internet connection risks
--> simply use more then 1 connection same time, for backup, always set a tp and sl and always have all emergency telephone numbers for closing all just in the case, problem solved

--> simple use options to save against this and pay the fee, if you want save against this, problem solved (only for intraday its more difficult, but if you trade mid and long term same time often with good system even this intraday gets possible to save in combination of all)

--> same like flash crashs..

--> its not so easy to find any you cant solve, or it will be no retail problem and same time institutionell problem. most what you listed are no retail problems at all, and near all can be avoided easy.

ofcourse there are risk in market, but no retail has bigger then institutionell, without the retailer dont know enough math and basics.

Its impossible to 'control' all of these risks.

hmm, really? i have never seen it impossible. but i come from banks side, so maybe we did it more planed and learned from the ground what to set up at basic, then learned how to trade.

what you mention i found always the easy part of trading, simple basic knowledge and problem solved, adding often more trading systems and hold all in line and managing together was more work later, the basics never was a problem, after you set the rules and hold it.

with what you got problems in last 20 years what was not solveable with this even simple rules i mentioned in last post?

at least what you mention are the easy parts, there are bad parts: like you get family problems, wars, death or illness, you get old, nuclear power plant problems, plain crashes or other accidents,...... this you cant plan, but your simple problems that anyone know this can happen and are possible to avoid with often easy parts, thats against the real problems very small, and after solved to really important. what you know and there are cheap solutions for this, this is easy. the unknown (or extrem extrem rarely) problems or the problems that have only expensive solutions, this are the really big problems.

but what risk you got as trader there? you trade a currency near a fixed level whot got this level by snb, so risk of level going away some day is big. you dont trade when there will be interest rates next day. so same thing, the risk being in wrong place is same, and interest rates is even smaller event, because planed, and level increasing or canceling is often totally unplaned. i think 2 or 3 times the level was in eurchf increased before this happend and it got very fast moves in up direction.

so your expample is, when you are in very risky position in a side what is very risky, you can have bigger problems, just normal. use a option if you want this risk or avoid this market or live with the risk. its nothing that was not possible to controll, because most only waited when this level will fall, not that it will fall.

but why you could not trade simple other currency or use option, because risk was extrem big? why you can call this as example? ofcourse some will lose , always some has to lose in a market where some has to lose so an other can win. many won same time when many lost.

ofcourse all risks can never be controlled, i called you many that cant so easy, but this small example was possible to avoid.

many dont like to learn from the ground and think trading is so difficult, people who learned from the ground (first basics complete to have perfect setup and later trading) think complete different, because they come in total other situations with total other risks. you can see this with so many people you talk around or know from old workplaces, most never have learned it from ground or stoped learning the ground basics and so cant see many risks or can see risks but dont know how exactly is a cheap way to protect against.

The problem was that many never anticipated the full possible extent of the move or maybe some ran risk models but made the decision to keep most of their fingers in the pie.

That was SNB.

Now then take a look at the GBP flash crash.

No way could anyone ever have predicted this 60 second move in the Asian session I recall.

Any trader in a GBP related pair at that time with or without stops was going to be in for some harsh realities.

This crash was impossible to predict and even more impossible to control the impact.

Many more examples are out there.

They might be rare but their impact can easily destroy an otherwise good trading record.

i see your point, but even this was not difficult to predict. or better lets say not difficult to see it could at least happen. at extrem low /high (what are low and high for many years, decades) are extrem risk (i did mentioned this in my post before already ), that there are many many stoporders and one move behind this can install a chain of stoporders breaking. one fat finger order can break over any of this border. so in gbpusd was a very long time already in risk for downsize with this point. so snb eurchf and flash crash gbpusd was both a high risk in this direction (triggering many stoporders in a chain), and some day the risk was coming.

but when you are afraid for this, dont trade it or simple take options to trade, dont tell people is not possible to avoid, thats complete wrong. you have to pay the fee for the option, but you can avoid it to 100%. true is, if you dont want stop trading risky directions in some currencies (or cant identify risky currencies and risky directions, then learning ground market basics first) or dont like to pay for avoid the risk, then you are right, its not possible to avoid it. but why i should do so?

but for helping you, the small crash in gold future market would be a better example for your side, the 2 examples with snb and gbp usd are very bad, because both easy avoidable if you are interested in trading and learned basic from ground (what are the risky points in risky directions, .....).

but many words in short: use options, and you dont need to fear what you looks like cant control, but its really easy.

next: in all situations, it was same money won then lost, so some lost, some win, thats just normal, so you can always say, then many know this basic ground knowledge facts and was invested on correct side or avoided this direction that was risky, ofcourse many only had luck maybe too.

controlling many situations is so much more easy then you think it is. there are enough instruments for this in the market. most must be learned, what is the advantage and disadvantage of each instrument (many have even never thought about options), but to say so easy things you say are not controllable is not true. there are the more difficult parts i did mention, this are the really problems.

the true difference between medium trader and professionell trader is, that for a professionell trader the risks (and this includes the risks you mentioned as a small part of all risks in trading) are not so important or avoidable if he want, because all is calculated in. for a medium trader it always looks not possible to avoid and his trading needs to much luck over time, thats why many dont survive many decades. to get from a beginner to medium trader its enough to learn mini basics and have a trading system, but the professionall part to live from it for many decades is to learn the ground basics, or it will be a risky business forever and no business to calculate all very good.
