Hey!

I would like to know your five strongest beliefs about the market. What is the market for you?

And I would also like to know your beliefs about yourself. Share your top three beliefs of your strenghts and weaknesses.

Answer the following questions as well.

- What is the purpose of life to you?
- How would your ideal life look like?
- If you could be an animal for one day, which one would it be?

Random walk, Levi flight. I see the market consolidate and the expand. The market is positively skewed, which means it goes further than we think, and less consolidating.
Adding to your winners and cut you losses.

Markets are largely random, but there are some points in time when they are predictable and will undergo "flight of levy" i.e breakouts and trends. If you were to generate random numbers and apply the right formula, you end up with charts that look just like the real thing. S/R, trends, all of it. The only reason we can make any money trading them is because they tend to have a bias in some general direction, and this bias is created primarily by people's expectations, which in turn are created by economic circumstances, interest rate decisions, or short term technical factors, etc.

In the end, I view them with a strong degree of nihilism (belief in nothing) - nothing in particular really works, but yet somehow there are things that just do.

most market participants are speculators... that's why breakouts work.

price has to reach that damn line (aka stop hunting)... which generates trend..

so I would definitely say: markets are never random.

Market is very complex, and a lot of input can't be known to the traders. But I think there are patterns, but these patterns aren't trivial. I want to find some pattern which are persistent enough.

do interesting things
doing interesting things and having a lot of money to do interesting things
every day a new one, but first: ant, very different viewpoint, flying ant

Beliefs:

  1. Price movements in the market are the direct result of orders placed therein by people acting on there beliefs.
  2. The resulting flow of orders will create on one of two general conditions - balance or imbalance.
  3. These two conditions create price patterns that are district from one another and are readily recognizable in real time.
  4. Each condition will ALWAYS be preceded by and end with the other.
  5. Recognizing and anticipating a change in the order flow can and will produce consistent and repeatable opportunities to profit.

Those are my beliefs about the markets. All the other questions are irrelevant to trading and esoteric nonsense fit only for psych 101 classes. I'm not taking a college course here... I'm running a business.

Thank you all for contributing! The purpose of this thread was to start an inner process of especially new traders - "know thyself". Like Tharp said, "you dont trade the market, you trade your beliefs about the market". I think its important to know your inner and outer objectives and your strenghts and weaknesses. You dont have to share them with the community, but I want to encourage you to work on it on your own.

Here are mine...

The market is
- always right
- my Boss
- trending or ranging
- strong or weak
- a consumption of beliefs

Strenghts
- problem solving
- creativity
- discipline

Weaknesses
- smoking
- sleeping to long
- patience

Purpose of Life to me
- I dont know. I like to see people having fun. I like to see them smile.

Ideal Life
- having an UFO

Animal for one day
- Great white shark

I love this market honestly, even though I lost more from here but never gave up. But true fact , I don’t believe the markets movements because there is nobody who can calculate the real faction of this market with certainly.

Change the word market with woman.

When you fall in love, you fall in love with your own emotions. You dont see things how they really are. You fall in love with a promise, that this person will make you happy. You will be very dissapointed after a while. You love her, you hate her. You then need to find a place within yourself where you can accept the positive and the negative. Otherwise she will be gone....
