I've been working on an EA for some time now and I'm approaching its completion.

What I would like to know is if there is any type of debugger for MT4? What I am looking for in particular is a way to control ticks and overall trends etc. Having to wait every time for a trend to start to happen in MT4 is going to add days/weeks to the debugging process of my EA.

Any ideas on how to do this?

You can use the built-in Strategy Tester for debugging (and strategy refinement) purposes. It's accuracy is within 5-10% of live trading in my experience, more accurate for longer-timeframes, less accurate for scalping-type methods, since ticks are simulated, but based on historical M1 data.

yea, the built-in strategy tester will help down the line, but for now I need something where i can actually simulate tick movements to verify trades will be executed when they should be and closed when they should be.

Does anyone know if anything like this exist for MT4?

But ... that's what the Strategy Tester does.
After a run, you can bring up a chart to see exactly the entry & exit points (and SL adjustements, etc.)

If that's not what you want, I guess I don't understand what you're looking for.

Ignored

dcmist,

When at the Strategy Tester click "Visual mode". This will bring up a chart and you will watch the ticks stored in History (F2) play through. The scroll bar under Visual will control tick speed. Then you can load indicators, EA's on the chart and test them.
