I think it's allmost impossible to program... But it's only a guess...

Why not use your eyes ? Double top/bottom do not occur all the time anyway.

The double top formation is identified as a distinctive chart pattern revealing a rally to new high followed by a moderate retreat which is then in turn followed by a second rally in which to test the new high.

Pipany, lucidlamp meant define double top Mathematically or Quantitatively

What you gave was a Qualitative definition.

In the programming world, our EAs and Indicators look for specific mathematical pattern in the markets to make their calculations. What then, should be the calculation be to determine a double top or double bottom or other chart pattern? A couple things of note:

 

  1. Bar Distance

    1. How many bars apart should the tops be?

  2. Price level

    1. How does the indicator determine what price to pick and look for tops?

Once you can answer those questions, then some of the programmers here can write an indicator/EA for you.
