Looking around on the top live account and a few have over 1,000% YTD gains and we’re only half way through the year. Obviously it’s legit since the accounts are verified through Forex Factory.

I’m curious to know if anyone has averaged 500% YOY for at least 3 years consecutively.

As Alan Greenspan said in his testimony following the LTCM collapse, no matter how skilful the trader, over the longhaul abnormal returns are sustained only through abnormal exposure to risk.

I started off with £1000 with an appetite for high risk, but as my account size grows, I'm cutting back aiming for a max drawdown of 20-30% which is part of my trading development. Its difficult to achieve a tight drawdown and a decent return (IMO, multiple times your deposit in a year) but thats the holy grail I guess. In my view, theres no point having a tight drawdown and achieving mediocre returns (<40% per year) if you are trading a small account. You might as well stick your money in mutual funds. Of course, if you are trading a larger account or someones money, then thats a different story.

DaPerk https://www.forexfactory.com/daperk#...xplorer.171470 is pretty damn good - wouldn't you say? 865% YTD return with max drawdown 24%.
ZTIRHNV All Time Return: 106.9%

Before I took time off from trading, I was doing about 3-4 trades per week. Assuming I win 50% and risk 2.5% to make 5% (1:2 R/R), I’d assume that’s good numbers to go on. Drawdown of 25%.

Well said. In the end is all about the psychological level that you can take it for your draw down. The objectives of your trading system must be CLEAR

Is somewhat like "WHAT AM I actually trying to achieve with this trading system?"
1) Your goal is to trading for fund managing? Draw downs, risks NEEDS to be conservative
2) Your goal is to trade for a living? Consistent gains, high efficiency
3) Your goal is to trade for money? (short term) Go for High Risk setups

Provided you have the systems in hand, Trade safe, cheers

Solid info. My goal is to be in this for the long haul. Full time. I think I’ll keep my risk at 2.5% and my reward at 5%.

Focus on your trading system's efficiency. (How WELL you can FOLLOW and execute the system) Results is just a by-product of how efficient you are in following your system's rules. Trade safe

When I was trading, I was extremely disciplined. I put my SL @ 2.5% and never moved it. I accepted defeat when I was wrong. I made 20% my first week after winning my first 4 trades. About a month later, I experienced 5 consecutive losses and it made me feel like a failure, so I quit. Then I discovered most of the traders on the top 10 leaderboards have experienced worse and bounced back. Some have losses of 8 straight.

Very interesting. My comfort zone is the 4H chart. 2.5% risk to make 5%.

Possible? Yes, on small accounts.
Sustainable? No.
Risky? Very.

Can be used as a business model? Certainly Not.

Where’s the risk if I’m risking 2.5% per trade while winning 50%?

It's not about the risk and reward. IS your system profitable? That's the first question you'll need to ask yourself.
