Only 6k expected tonight.

However, since Stevens took over from McFarlane the trade deficit narrowed to a four-year low and retail sales rose for a third month. Australian consumer confidence climbed for a second month in October.

So is an aud/usd boost on the cards tonight?

Any care to share their thoughts?

Aud & nzd have been the best trades of recent months, i hope it continues tonight.

Estimates for Aus employment numbers are ALWAYS off the mark by a mile. This caused very good moves in the AUDUSD 3 times prior to last month.

Last month, the estimate was around 5K, came out 29K and the move was very limited.

I suggest that should the number be:

a) > 20K, Long AUDUSD for 10-15 pips
b) > 40K, Long AUDUSD for 20-30 pips
c) 10~20K, risky

I'd go only if the number is higher than 30K

Good advice and analysis, Burgerking. I suppose the problem is tonight is say a 30k figure in a very strong dollar environment. So this will negate a lot of the positive impact from a surprise to the upside.

How do you normally play it? straddle or enter after the number or before?

i just heard on TTN that there will be a press breifing 15 minutes after this number is releaesd, and that only happens when they need to calm down the market after a "big" number. so watch this one carefully!
Relax and be happy.

The value of having a news service:

I was not confident trading this news today as I dont have a news service to guide me..

So, I had a small lot but @ 32, limit 40 (8 pips)...

When the price went up, I manually closed it but broker for some odd reason, closed it for 0 profit! WTF!

Looks like Burger King is right, the numbers are always off the mark. One to keep an eye on in the calendar for the future.

Am I the only one who did not make any money on this news?

Darn. I was trading blind!

Merlin, Can you get TTN to give me a discount for a +Audio package?

I now there are a lot of very good traders on FF that use some very sophisticated technical systems. I got into forex about a year ago and straddled news releases for a long time, building up my "fundamental" chops along the way. The AUS and NZ trades are the final frontier for straddling. US trades require an in-depth fundamental analysis, because the only way to trade them now is to take a position prior to an announcement, like I did today prior to the FOMC minutes. This one was a nice easy straddle just like the old days...and it actually worked very well, just slow. I've been squeezin the pips out of this since 21.30 EDT when my straddle got entered at 35. When I looked at the number I couldn't believe that a big spike wasn't seen very quickly, but you know what? Better off it went slow...it was easy to get into and I'll ride the thing all night long if i'm profitable. Almost brings a tear to my eye in rememberance of the good old days when I could straddle an NFP and make like 70 pips in less then 2 minutes...man those were the days!

All told...I did NOT straddle this release. I waited for my third minute bar to move above my second and got in at 46.

Closed out 2 lots for a total of 20 pips. Let my last lot move for another 31.
Total... +51

Best AUD Unemployment take ever.

I must say though that this forum has been improving my trade ability. My education going into each trade is by far much better than ever...thanks for all of the hard work guys.

One day I hope to add with helpful work myself.
