How do I add an Alert on TSR Execute Line Indicator

I have the following indicator based on a system developed by FXIGOR (available on FF). I want to have an alert sound 5 times when the line color changes based on the close of the previous bar. I also want the alerts to sound only between 10GMT and 17GMT.

I am new to MT4. Any guidance or help is appreciated.

I saw your other response on adding an alert on an indicator on another thread but when I try the same thing here it doesn't work as expected.

Can you help me with the alert piece and I will try to figure out the timeframe part.

Hmmmm I don't think I know how to make an alarm sound 5 times LOL. never occurred to me before.

I tried to code in the piece from your other indicator you created.

I can't cut and paste because it is on my other machine so I will rewrite it here.

}

Then I did same thing for trend[x]<0.

Try this one (attached). Not sure if it does the trick. It's difficult because this thing draws itself backwards and redraws itself....

The "logic" is basically my own special shortcut for a more convoluted nest of logical operators.

As to how it's intended to work......

1. We're only interested in what happens when x is 0 (in other words we don't want an alert every time the line color changes historically.... but only on the CURRENT candle).

2. Prevtrend is the trend array value from the previous time the indicator's loop was executed.

3. We're looking for the value of trend to change from negative to positive or to positive or negative. Therefore, when a direction change occurs, one of the two (trend[1] or prevtrend) will be negative and the other one will be positive. But we don't know which one. So, we either nest it with "ifs" and "ands".....or..... well, if one's negative and the other's positive then their product will be negative!

-1 x 1 = -1

1 x -1 = -1

-1 x -1 = 1

1 x 1 = 1

I think I need to go back to grade school math.

pdhawan, did you figure out how to make your alerts only occur during a certain time period? I am trying to figure out the same thing. Please attach your code if you figured it out... Thanks!

if (Hour()==10){

AlertCodeHere;
}

that will give you alerts between 10am and 11 am. if you want them only AT 10 am, you might have to give it a 5 minute bracket (sometimes there's no tick for 5 minutes!). To do that, go

if ((Hour()==10)&&(Minutes()<5)){alert code here;}
*****************************************************
or (for in-between time):

if (Hour()<10)&&(Hour()>2) {alert code here;}
*****************************************************
The only problem with those is, if you want an alert to happen between eg 9pm (21) and 3am (3), it gets a little more complicated. You might have to make the code pick up that situation and automatically split the time period into 21-23 and 0-3 for example. Could do it by nesting some more logic

If you want it to be based on your local time rather than the dealer time, use

TimeHour(LocalTime())

instead of Hour() and/or TimeMinutes(LocalTime()) instead of Minutes()

Clear as mud?

I want to set up alerts from the London open through 11 AM in the US, so I don't think I should have to split the time period like you mentioned, but it's good to know for future reference. I have a slight programming background, but I am out of practice and am just beginning with Metatrader 4. Do you know where there is a listing of all the available global variables (eg HOUR, MINUTES, TimeHour, LocalTime, etc.)? Also, I am wanting to grab the high and low from a certain time period. Do you have some suggested code for how I can look back through a span of several hours (specific times each day..ex: 7pm-1am) and get both the high and low from that period? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

Sure but what do you want your indi/EA to do with that data?

Basically, I just want to draw lines at the high and low, so I can see where they are on the chart, and then I want an alert to sound when price goes above the high or below the low of that time period. Seems simple enough, I know, but I just don't know how to grab the high and low from a specific time frame. I appreciate all your help! Oh, and right now, I'm just trying to develop an indicator for this, but I think I'm going to try to code an EA based off of this and some other factors in the near future (once I get some more experience with MT4 programming. Thanks!

You can use the Highest and Lowest functions.

Haha, I would love to tell you the secret, but I can't because it's somebody else's proprietary system. Sorry! I hate to say that since you are helping me so much, but ethics are ethics! So, I've seen the Highest and Lowest functions, but how do I tell it to just get the high and low between certain times of the day? I don't see how I can tell it to look between 2 specific times (say 7pm - 12am) and draw my lines/create my alerts based off that... Thanks for all your help!

What's a proprietary system??? What protects that?
(I'm only teasing but please DO tell me!)

As for your question..... why not do run through all the bars from (Bars-IndicatorCounted) to 0, set a switch On (eg a bool called Switch) when Time[yourBarCounter] hits the starting hour, switch the switch off when it hits the ending hour (of your chosen bracket). Have an if(){} statement. If (switchOn)....and then you can either add the lows and highs to tws arrays and when the switch turns off you do Highest/Lowest each array and reset the array....or you can just use two variables during the time the switch is on. Eg, MyHigh and MyLow.

if (High[MyBarCounter]>MyHigh){MyHigh=High[MyBarCounter];}
if (Low[MyBarCounter]<MyLow){MyLow=Low[MyBarCounter];}

Of course at the outset as soon as the switch turns ON, you have to set MyLow=Low[MyBarCounter];

That's because if MyLow starts with 0, it'll always be less than Low[MyBarcounter] and it'll never assume a different value because the "if" statement will never kick in.

Anyway, at the switchOff point the value of MyLow is the lowest of all lows in that period and MyHigh is the highest.
