No MT4 connection except via SafeMode with networking

My MT4 launches okay but no connection, not for data feed, open new account, or login. But I can get a connection while in safe mode with networking. That's how I was able to open a demo account.

Any suggestions to solve this problem? I have Vista OS and no problems browsing to any websites.

It's possible a windows update may be causing the problem. One prior update would not allow my Internet Explorer to connect to the internet (Firefox always worked okay) until I uninstalled it. But there are too many updates for me to uninstall all of them and then reinstall them one by one and test if MT4 will work. Also I have searched through other forums but I have not found anyone else that has said an update has stopped MT4 from connecting.

Things I have tried but did not help:

Allow MT4 through Windows firewall
ran virus and Spybot scan
Disabled Vista windows firewall, AVG, Defender
Completely uninstalled AVG (anti-virus) and Spybot
Uninstalled and installed MT4 from 4 different brokers
Installed MT4 in different directories
Checked and unchecked enable proxy server in options
Tried run as administrator
Turned on DEP for essential windows programs
Set startup menu with only "Microsoft windows operating system" checked
Have all windows updates except the one that stopped IE. (even with that update MT4 still would not connect)

My guess would be that it is a networking issue and not a Vista/MT4 issues. Someone is blocking the port that MT4 uses to talk to the servers.

Is this your work computer or your home computer? If it's your work, the IT department is probably blocking the port MT4 uses and you need to get them to open the port through their firewall for you.

Another thing to try is one of the non MT4 clients, like OandA.com fxgame or efxgroup.com navigator and see if they work. If they both fail, then it's some connectivity issue and you need to check with your hosting company/IT department.

Doesn't sound as if external network related as A777 states that it can connect in safe mode - network (external to PC doesn' care about that). I take that to mean Vista has a similar 'start in safe mode' as all the other windoze OS's have had.

One item to check - and its a longshot. My XP laptop - after a recent upgrade would no longer connect to the other PC's on my home network. Surfing etc was ok.
I had to disable the network bridge and 1394 net adaptor. Then home networking worked again. I have read of others having MT4 probs w/ Vista here on the forum, while others have no issues.

PS: If this is a work PC/Laptop then you shouldn't be messing w/ it like this. The Intel support guys hate that stuff.

PS: I just realized that my sons HP laptop is Vista - if I promise to buy him another gig or 2 of memory he'll probably let me borrow it for the night to test with. Who knows I may need his setup some day for disaster recovery

Thanks for the comments. It is my home computer and it's plugged in directly to the cable modem (Comcast ISP) with an ethernet cable for my internet connection, no router, nothing else. I also had dsl before and had this same non-connection issue for MT4.

Vista has the option of booting in safe mode or safe mode with networking which allows connecting to the internet.

Oanda platform loads ok (though execution of trades once in awhile seems oddly slow). But I do have this same problem not connecting to tradingrooms and MBtrading Navigator platform. They launch okay but cannot connect.

I have tried disabling the windows firewall and antivirus many times. Is there anything else that possibly might be blocking my ports in normal mode but not in safe mode?

It has got to be that Vista is loading some security item in normal mode that is not loaded in safe mode. (State the obvious huh)

Chap 4 and 5 look to be where your fix is. It could be something as simple as MT4 wanting a 'cookie' or equiv from your PC and Vista saying no - cause its personal data.
