Hi. I'm Emanuel, I'm from Italy and I'm 23 years old. I started learning forex 1 and half year ago with decent results. I'm very interested in intraday trading and I would like to hear experiences from successful traders. What really helped you to became a profitable trader? What was the missing piece of the puzzle that turned you into a profitable trader?

Thanks in advance for your time

For me what seems to be helping is trading in some form all the time. as Zikrilrfan has said with Practice, Practice, Practice. Some books that helped me find a starting point have been as follows:

The Dow Theory - by Robert Rhea , specifically chapter 2

Trend Following - by Michael Covel ( the 5 questions to answer before you even enter a trade)

Reminiscences of a Stock Operator ‑ by Edwin Lefevre ( the mindset )

The Richest Man in Babylon - by George S. Clason (seven cures to a lean purse)

From that foundation i started asking better questions and have started to develop rules to trade by, Today i have rules, but i am left with the psychology of the trade, and learning to follow the rules i made for me.

I think it is important to create rules for yourself, in my opinion i think the wrong direction is to try to follow someone elses rules without taking in consideration yourself, your habits both good and bad, and the limitations as individuals we all have, that come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and degrees.

Good luck in your trading, and thank you for your time

Fred

What helped the most(and a lot of things helped) was joining a small trading group and all working together with a mentor.

I think persistence is one of those qualities of a trader that can help you become successful in forex. Being in the business of trading you will lose at some point. But if you are able to draw some worthwhile lessons from your defeats and hit back stronger it'll be really good. You need to be really good at seeing patterns and being more discerning. Besides this you should have a keen urge to learn and grow. So as AdamCrist said you need to practice regularly.
